Not watching the show (don’t think I’ve ever actually watched the Emmy broadcast in my life), but poking my head in the thread it’s nice to see Adolescence is cleaning up. Much deserved. ---

Bargatze is my favorite stand-up and I was happy when he got the gig … but he wasn’t good. The $100k clock was a brilliant idea; the fact that it didn’t help is telling. Even with the lives of children on the line\*, most of the winners couldn’t STFU and get off the stage. \*Hyperbole. ---

To be fair, it’s manipulative to use a children’s charity to encourage people to keep their acceptance speeches brief. For many (especially first-time) winners, this is their one opportunity to speak before their peers and acknowledge what brought them to this point. ---

I noticed that as well, and thought that it would alter the content of the acceptance speech, to meaningful thoughts and not just shout-outs to the winner’s agent. It didn’t. ---

Nobody’s speeches seemed to be too long, but yet they all went over the time limit. Seems like the time limit was too short. The presenters’ bits were terrible and the tributes to Golden Girls and Law & Order were totally lame. ---

I thought Nate did ok. What I thought sucked was the In Memorium performance. Jeez, what a shite song. I can understand the choice to have country performers. Not my genre, but it caters to some folks’ taste and seems a good gesture of inclusiveness. But the combo of the religious tone, the nonexistent melody, and the strong country twang was really unpleasant. ---

I knew it was on then forgot to watch! I’m so happy Jeff Hiller and Tramell Tillman won. Both great. So sad about _somebody somewhere_ being cancelled. I saw a guy wearing a jacket from their show months ago and told him how much we love the show. He told me it was cancelled, though he loved it, too. Boo. I didn’t watch _Adolescence._ Is it on HBO? I’ll have to catch it. ---

We’ve seen three episodes of The Studio and bailed out. And we haven’t seen Adolescence , although now I think we will. So our reaction to most of the evening was: “What? Again?” But we have seen and loved The Pitt, so that was great. ---
