Will your resume reflect the change? I would certainly be curious about someone who went from a “Sr. Analyst V” to an “IT Analyst III”. Even if these terms have no universal meaning, I would assume that, internally, the change meant something and going from “Sr.” to not “Sr.” sounds relevant.
I wouldn’t include that on there; the job hasn’t actually changed, just the number on the end. Marking that particular change on a resume would be being too honest by half.
If I ever have to go look for a new job, I’m just going to put 'BA III" or whatever the title ends up being on the resume, and leave it at that. Since I’m now an interim manager, I’ll probably put “BA V” on the resume from my start date through Dec 2020, and manager since then, assuming it’s made permanent. No need to actually call out that interim period where I’m a BA on paper and acting as a manager.
that changes everything… ![]()
Government jobs exist on a whole different planet than the private sector.
I’m gonna guess that you have nothing to worry about.
(I started my career with government jobs, and went nuts over the inefficiency and bureaucracy, and lazy attitudes of everybody. Being young and stupid and enthusiastic about my profession, I was glad to switch to the private sector. Oh, did I mention that I was stupid? ![]()
I’m now counting the months to retirement, after being totally burned out by the pressure of the business world…If I had stayed in a government job, I’d probably prefer to keep working.
If I had a nickel for every time an employee or former employee told me they were talking to a lawyer I’d be a, well, maybe not a wealthy man but I could afford a meal at McDonald’s and supersize it. But given that HR didn’t communicate that changes were coming this is on them.
I decided to opt out of the group grievance, mostly because the language they were using was really hyperbolic, needlessly legalistic, and more than a touch absurd. I really don’t want my name attached to it, honestly. It reads like an ambulance chaser plaintiff attorney wrote it for something without any actual merit.
And I think it’s not going to go anywhere; what’s going to make a difference is if a bunch of the department heads go to bat collectively about it, not if we gripe at HR ourselves.
