Hey, we give loans even if there’s a chance that you won’t be able to pay it back. I mean hey, what’s the worse that can happen?
When I had jury duty a couple of years ago, I happened to wander past the courtroom where bankruptcies were being processed. On a table right outside the courtroom were several displays offering the newly-bankrupt opportunities to “rebuild their credit” — by way of secured credit cards with laughably low credit lines and usurious interest rates.
