OK, action taken. I have closed the “serious” ones, where there probably are 100 characters (like Tolkien, Star Wars, etc.) I’m leaving the sarcastic ones like “Godot” and “My dinner with Andre.”

Eh, you have a point to an extent, but the glut of “100” threads needed to be nipped in the bud. Nothing wrong with talking about obscure characters from whatever, but doing nothing but listing them is a waste of space.

Am I the only person who doesn’t find the first page to be some magical Narnia-like place? Seems to me it’s more appropriate for people to have to actually endure (gasp!) looking past the first page, then to bitch about threads that feel are unworthy instead of simply ignoring them. As if somehow their personal judgement of what is worthy of page one status is more important that what naturally stays on the page.
I know it’s awfully tough to click that link to go to page two, and also very self-satisfying to pit people for making threads _you_ feel are unworthy of the mystical holy page one status, but maybe an effort can be made.
If people didn’t like these threads, they’d go away on their own. If people do like them, and the threads you somehow feel are more worthy end up off the front page, well tough titty. Your thread has been demonstrated to be unfit for the page, and has been naturally selected out. Nature is red in tooth and claw, and all that.

I don’t really see how they were post-count parties. I mean sure, they were geeky. But people were limited to one post per thread - taking the serious ones, those threads all together have probably bumped up everyone’s post counts by what, 4? And that’s assuming they post in all of them.

Maybe I’m hung up on the name **Cafe Society** (and I’ll admit I’ve answered a few cooking threads) but frankly the only recipes I want to see there are from Alexandre Dumas.
Separately, the great thing about a RL café is the conversation that inevitably arises within its clearly-defined boundaries. Whether you’re in Milan, Morocco or at the base of Montmartre, I can practically guarantee you will never overhear a discussion about _American Idol_, let alone popcorn-like banter consisting only of The Villains of _The Dark Knight_.
This however is a for-pay site, an American for-pay site, and Americans like to talk about this kind of crap. So have at it, y’all. At least I can keep up on pop culture without actually having to watch the dreadful stuff.

There were like 8 or 9 of those threads and there would have been way more. Also, take a look at the number of posts per thread link. Several people posted multiple times to each one. One thread had about 40 posts, 25 of which came from two people.
