However, I’m willing to give them that one - there’s no way of knowing if they would have detected whatever type of scan they were using. The alien points to a couple of buttons and Archer is suddenly flying the ship like an old pro. And that’s what I have a problem with - the assumption that someone who is a pilot can pilot _anything_, no matter how different. It would be like taking a WWI era biplane pilot, sticking them at the controls of an F16, pointing out the throttle and stick, and telling them to go to it. Or what’s even worse, they’ll stick a pilot in some sort of alien ship, have him push a couple of buttons with unexpected reactions for comic affect, then suddenly he’s oriented to the controls and flying the ship expertly. I know it’s a pretty standard convention in TV and movie Sci-fi, but it’s one that’s always bugged me just a little. ---

At first, I thought it might mess up on me again but the tracking cleared up pretty quickly. The hell? I wouldn’t know where to start if I loaded windows and it was suddenly in Cyrillic, so how is Travis going to be able to use a totally alien interface?
