Well, **Viva** , you want the bad news first? No Panda Anyhoo… a minor nit to start: The shuttle in route to the transport. The complete lack of forshadowing made the forshadowing more certain. When Malcom said, “We can take 'em out, sure, piece of cake, Green Blooded Woman.” and then they cut to T’Pol and her pointy nipples, I mean ears, and she said _absolutely nothing_, you just knew they were going to board the shuttle. I don’t know how I would’ve changed it, but maybe have the alien officer guy protest, or Merriwether say to T’Pol, “Just one damn minute!” Oh well. Yes, I liked this one. After all, the strongest fans are often the harshest critics. They also changed the look of the Nauzis. They looked too damn human in the face, just ugly. Where were the speech impediments _TNG_ introduced us to? Too many things like this keep changing, it’s irritating. I liked Dr. Beckett kicking ass at the end. Kind of like Kirk in _STIII:TSFS_. “I have had… enough… of you!” Then, death. Mmmm… death. I mean Captain Archer. Not Sam Beckett. Sorry. Good flow overall. Nice, tight story, even though predictable in parts. Maybe the predictability made it somewhat more entertaining. ---

I really liked the show tonight! The only problems I had were sort of technical ones: UPN seems to keep the audio lowered for some reason (sometimes I have to turn on closed captioning to be able to understand what is being said), and I really dislike the shades of grey that seem to be de rigeur on Enterprise–don’t these ships have any color on them at all? LOL I was on the edge of my seat at the end, even though I knew that Archer was going to make it out. Who (and what?!) was that annoying seatmate, though? Good grief, seatmate from hell! Is next week a re-run? ---

I did like Archer’s scene at the end, where he basically greeted the govt official offering the lame apologies with basically what amounted to a big “F\*\*\* You!” And oh my god where did they find that seat mate? “And then one time… at band camp…” ---

I loved it when Trip finally blew up at the seatmate from hell, who then got all apologetic and started fondling his tendrils. I half expected Trip to develop a case of the guilts and apologize for his outburst. At which point, of course, SFH would resume his monologue while Trip tried to look like he was listening. Liked it, though I was sorry not to have actually seen Canamar itself. The ads had said it was “legendary for its cruelty,” but why bother to mention this if we don’t get a glimpse? Random comments: –For the first 45 minutes, I was convinced that poor Mayweather had had his vocal cords severed. He might as well have. –Right after Corroded/Kuroda told Archer about the crappy rations, Archer kinda bumped his head getting up. Did you notice? –I thought the Inolians were “Linoleums” for quite a while. –Where were the bathrooms on that transport? The holes in the seats? –I liked Trip’s snug pants, though I think he might have swiped them from the cap’n on the _Serenity_. –The annoying seatmate sounded an awful lot like Keegan DeLancie (Q Junior on Voyager), but he was not listed as a guest star. He also had some funky green vegetation growing out of his face. It looked a lot like **carnivorousplant**. 😉 –I kinda wanted to see Kuroda explode in the ship at the end. Isn’t that the result of a decaying orbit? –I am so bummed out that it lacked Panda. Archer and Trip didn’t even get to sit together, for garshsakes. Decent show, all things considered. How shall we spend our time during reruns? ---

Well, **viva** just pretty much said what I’d have said about this episode (and surely better than I’d have said it), so I won’t even bother. Except to say that I really felt that the Inolians _should_ have been called “Linoleums”. And since I have nothing else to say on the subject of pandas, prison, or office nudity, I’ll go away now. ---

Just a few things… When Kuroda asked Archer if he was a good pilot, I half-expected… no, full expected “Good pilot? Why I made the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs!” Trip’s seatmate should have been named “K’hircc”. That would have been great. “Oh I should have said _I_was a starship captain. Captain K’hircc!” I would have laughed. The prisoners should have had a bar running in front of them while they were chained to their seats. And their hands should have been chained to the bar. And they should be made to pull the bar in a circle (just for the exercise, you don’t want flabby prisoners). And there should have been a drum to keep time to as you pull the bar in a circle. If you fell behind, you would get whipped. I swear! The “writers” just don’t think these things through. And did you get a load of that transport ship? What? It was a reject chicken-ship from _Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius_? I know what the convicts meant. I would be terrified if I was sentenced to Canada. Oooo… scary! I know it’s way easier to make space aliens by slapping on lumpy prosthetics, or giving them dangley bits. For once though, could they make the alien with a smoother head than standard hu-mahns? It worked so well for Odo, they should do that again. -Rue. (thinking, always thinking) ---
