Over the hiatus, I built a little (well…3 feet little) model of the NX-01. The real trick was to keep the nacelle connectors from snapping and the whole back side from sagging. Well, I fixed it up, but it does make one wonder…the starships all can accelerate to full impulse (.25c) in a couple of seconds, and the thrusters are all concentrated on one point. Doesn’t that place enormous stress on other areas of the ship, especially the little connectors to the nacelles? If the consensus is that this episode is good, I’ll tell you my new idea for the opening credits (no, not the rap Faith of the Heart that I’ve posted three or four times and nobody cares about, apparently) ---

Perry, which is a continuation of her books “Avatar” and “Rising Sun,” both of which were excellent, but frustrating, since the story did not end at the end of either book! I swear, though, if S.D. Perry leaves the end of this book hanging I may never read her ST work again! GAH! Well, maybe. So far, the book is an excellent ST read, btw–I highly recommend it to any DS9 fan. Don’t they have any “Enterprise” folks coming to Vegas, btw?!?! tarragon ---

(really, not exactly canon, but the implications are seen in aired eps. Several books go a little deeper into it. Esp that one about Robert T April and the teenaged James Kirk.) Klingon Opera is a viable alternative for the second. ---

Climax?: - Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley’d and thunder’d; Storm’d at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell Rode the six hundred.\* Ha ha! Force field around the warp core! Dead in the water and blind as a bat. The beam out effect was nicely old-ish looking. ( I have the contest now! Will post link in a minute.) Denoument: Tripp tries to justify Quantum’s actions as being needed and okay. Just platitude? Or real feelings? ---

Glad to see Degra’s coming around, but I was suprised at how willing the lizards were to turn around and put their tails between their scaly crotches after telling everybody “Kiss our asses” last episode… Okay, so lots of action and shooting, and a steamy shower scene where they still didn’t show enough… but… So Archer is now turning pirate, and the only one who’s actually calling him on it is his insulation junkie first officer, just fresh back from shooting up Trellium D and snorting asbestos. I suppose they are trying to paint Archer as willing to go to any extremes for the cause, but gotta say… he’s no Jack Bauer. At least tell that other ship, “Hey, we’ll bring it back once we’ve saved our planet”. Next week, on an all new Enterprise! - Malcolm has a shocking secret – he’s been downloading Klingon porn! - Travis is holding the ship hostage, refusing to fly it any further until he gets more lines in the script! - Hoshi secretly learning to play the piano! - Porthos caught humping Dr. Phlox’s leg! Phlox likes it! - Oh yeah, and those Xindi assholes yell mean stuff at the humans some more… ---

I thought that was an insectoid Xindi. Backula’s acting detracted from the episode, and it’s not an original theme. Turning to the “Dark Side” to save your planet is an interesting plot. Robbing a bank to pay for your child’s organ transplant. Murdering the others in a lifeboat so your family will survive. T’Pol’s predicament is interesting, made less so, indeed wasted when she goes to see her guidance counselor. Nice that the raid goes bad, and it is a credit to the authors, something I don’t often say, that I thought perhaps they wouldn’t be successful. Triner (sp) is as always good. Heroically killing off Archer and making Trip Captain would be a good move. ---
