I think \*Schrodinger’s Cat \*would have been a much cooler episode title than _Observer Effect_. **Synopsis** : _After Y Hoshi Y and Trip contract a deadly virus while exploring a planet, two ghostly aliens possess the bodies of various Enterprise crew members to observe humanity’s reaction to imminent tragedy. As the aliens secretly jump bodies to observe, Phlox strives to cure the stricken pair, but with his efforts failing, Archer must make a difficult decision in order to shield the rest of the crew from this growing biohazard_. Yeah, so, I obviously haven’t seen this episode but seeing as how \*\*viva \*\*said there’s gonna be lots an’ lots of Hoshi in it, there’s no way in hell I’m going to let \*\*plant \*\*start the thread and since \*\*Tars \*\*isn’t here no more, that left the honors to me. Those hearts were on the [startrek.com](http://startrek.com) episode guide, I swear. ---

So how did Hoshi and and Trip contract this deadly STD? Were they just investigating the local fauna and flora? Trip picks up a plant\*. Hoshi turns and says, “Oh, what a lovely [Jack in the Pulpit](http://2bnthewild.com/plants/H46.htm)?” Trip says, “What?” … [sub]\* He’s really lonely after getting no neuropressure treatments, cplant[/sub] ---

Hmmm. TNG’s _Power Play_ comes to mind. Voy’s _Distant Origin_. TOS’ _Day of the Dove_ and _Spectre of the Gun_. Ooh! That TOS ep with Gem the Empath, too! I’m sure some others had similarly themed plots. Bummer. I weep for my 7:00 - 8:00 hour. ☹ ---

_DS9_ had one where Keiko was posessed by a Pah Wraith and another where Jake and Kira were inhabited by a Prophet and yet another Pah Wraith as well. For good or bad, possessions are a staple of Trek. ---

Possessions and/or secret observations. I thought of a few more form TNG but i don’t want to get too depressed before the show even airs. Nagilum: “Die for me.” That trio that decided to examine different aspects of NCC-1701D’s psyches… One became a chocoholic, one continually argued with Worf, and one tried to seduce Picard. There’s more… ---

The current soundtrack score is definitely borrowing from Courage and Goldsmith. The smarminess of Malcolm in general fit well with the (unhidden) twist. Tho they are both in DeCon, neither Hoshi nor Trip has stripped. Panda: 0 They’re actually being subtle so far. I like how everyone is getting irritated at the possessed, but no one sees enough of a difference to call them out. 🙂 ---

Tsunami relief PSA from Bakula at [UPN.com](http://UPN.com) commercial just aired. Nice and to the point. Science question: how would a totally alien virus/bacteria/whatever affect our auto-immune system? Trip spoke of silicon life infections as not being affected by hs ais. Well, how would it go about infecting him in the first place? Doesn’t all of this rely on proteins and enzymes in the first place? Hoshi’s multilingual nightmare rant was a neat touch. As was the nonstandard angle it was shot from. This director is using such things to good effect, not to annoyance. So far so good. Much better than last week. ---

Phlox rocks! Linda Park should really be used more. She is a wonderfully adept actress. The webcam effect shots were cool. How is it that one director can use nonstandard effects so well while another blows chunks at the wall? It’s going to be a dues ex machina ending, but this time, I think it will be a fairly decent one. Yeah, this stand alone ep is actually pretty interesting, even captivating at some points. ---

Bacula had a good line! But, why did he need to remove his helmet, too? All he needed was for his hands to be free. Yeah, it was the cliche “Humans are different” version of d.e.m. that saves them. Organians!? Shit. Memory erasure preserves canon. (TOS - _Errand of Mercy_) Quantum delivers a good speech about dispassionate noninvolvement. Compared to last week, superb. Compared to trek overall, still good. The Organians thing wasn’t necessary, imo, but at least it fits. On a scale of 1 - 10, high 6, maybe a solid 7. Equal to average TNG ep. Next week will be wild. ---

Organians? WTF? How did they get bodies? Are they all a bunch of antimated zombies in _Errand of Mercy_? I suppose that explains why they would be concerned about species killing each other, but why not just inhabit Kirk and the Klingon guy, work it out? What about the Organian Treaty, why make the weapons hot? Why not inhabit the ambassadors and work out a real treaty? This sucks. ---
