I love the tireless Brangelina defenders. Is it not possible to accept that not everyone worships the ground they trod upon? Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Is there any distinction to be made between people who “worship the ground” these celebrities walk on and people who think that perhaps the scorn heaped upon them is unwarranted?

Is there a lot of scorn heaped upon them? I don’t see that, not in the media anyway. I think the difference is that many people seem to take it personally when Brangelina are criticized for any reason. It really doesn’t make sense unless you happen to know them personally. It’s all speculation.
I honestly don’t know if Brangelina are smug famewhores. That’s just the impression I get. And their rabid fans who think they can do no wrong don’t help.

Fair enough. But it’s one thing not to jump on the bandwagon and verbally fellate them; it’s quite another to actually hate them for getting all that attention. Do you simply not give a rat’s ass about it (like me), or do you actually despise them for getting that attention? If the latter, are you jealous?

Do you think I worship the ground they trod upon? I couldn’t name three things they’ve done off-set without rereading the thread. There’s a big difference between “I don’t worship the ground they trod upon” and “I hate them for being so nice”, and I’m seeing lots of the latter and very little of the former here.

What are they supposed to do, give out awards (or not) based on the morality of the people involved? There are plenty of assholes in the film world, just like in any other industry. Where do you draw the line? Adultery? Cocaine use? Those would cut out plenty of great films. It’s not the Academy’s (or whoever’s) business to slap directors on the hand for what they do in their personal lives, however reprehensible; it’s their business to recognize great movies.

How about Richard Wagner? I recently discovered I like his music, but I hate myself for it because the guy was such an anti-Semite. At least if I buy “his” albums the money goes to worthy orchestras, not him.

**drm** mentioned this briefly, but when it comes to crusading “born again” Stephen Baldwin is pretty freakin’ annoying too. Not quite as over-the-top as Bibleman Willie Ames running around in a suprhero costume, but he’s not trailing far behind. Defnitely a “crusdaer” though.
But anyway, it’s Tom Cruise I hate too.

Sorry, I didn’t see your comment earlier.
I think that any organization can choose to associate with whom they want to, and they can draw the line anywhere they want to. Personally, I wouldn’t vote to give an award to someone who abuses children, no matter how brilliant their film was. But I wasn’t just speaking of awards…as **Cardinal** said, I can’t believe people are even willing to _work_ with him. I would be impressed with the film industry if he had trouble getting his films made because too many people refused to be a part of them.

Back to the point of the thread: Adam Baldwin, because of the DVD commentary on a fifth-season episode of Angel. He did nothing but bash his fellow actors, proclaim his own superiority and “professionalism”, and just generally come off as an utter pompous dick.
When your dramatic repetoire can best be summed up with the phrase “large scowling moron”, you don’t have a lot of room to be high-handed.

I have said it before but I really don’t like Philip Seymour Hoffman - although I can recognize he is probably a good actor.
I hate his wet, breathy way of speaking.
I also don’t like Gene Hackman (not sure why), and am starting to dislike John Travolta, but not for the reasons mentioned so far - because he has developed this habit of clenching his jaw the whole time he is speaking.
