On Friday I sent my wife a simple text message: Dinner tonight? And we wound up having one of the most fun evenings we’ve had in years. For the record we are both in our fifties, and both a bit behind the technological curve. I communicate via text with less than ten people; my wife communicates with almost no one via text. So I think it was a thrill for her to get a text asking her out on a date. I’m wondering how much people have used texting as a way to flirt. I’m guessing there might be some great examples from Dopers: boy to girl and girl to boy, and any other combinations you can think of. Links to previous threads, web sites, etc. welcome ---

I’ve sent my SO naughty texts while he’s at work; I like the idea that he’s at his desk and turned on and nothing he can do about it til he gets home. 😉 ---

Be careful of mixed signals tho’. A text between me and my gf (of the time) Me: _Man! u were really on fire last nite!_ her: \* Oh god, I know. I’m so embarrassed\* me: _Yeah, the kids were asking me why was I hurting Stacey_ After that I didn’t get any return texts. That evening she was suppossed to come over for dinner. She was late, she calls me up and tells me she wants to go out that night. I ask her “why” as I’ve already got dinner cooking on the stove. She proceeds to tell me that she can’t look the kids (one of them mine two of them my room mates) in the eye. Me; totally forgeting the texts I sent her earlier that day asks “What the heck are you talking about?” :dubious: She tells me: “They heard us last night!!” Me: “Oh good grief!! That was a joke FCOL!! Get your ass on over here.” 😃 ---

The idea of “sexting” had not occurred to me until I started doing it with the last boy I was trying to get with. We had been communicating mostly via text (we’re both pretty shy) and just saying mundane things. One day I said something slightly naughty, then apologized, but he replied that it was ok and he liked that I will say dirty things to him, yadda yadda now we’re hooked. Hooked up, I mean. Not addicted to naughty texts. But we still do it 🙂 I think it’s very fun because it’s a fun way to catch someone off guard or be caught off guard. ---

I sent my wife “Hey sweetie, how about dinner out?” and got back “Why don’t you ask your wife?” from one of the kids. They’re immediately adjacent in my list of Contacts, you see… ---

IME, it only works if it’s leading up to something. I can’t imagine I’d ever be satisfied with extreme shorthand and nothing else. ---

My mom sometimes texts the wrong kid - like asking me why I’m not home yet, or when football practice ends today…when I haven’t lived at home in 5 years and am a girl 😛 ---

Oh god one of my best friends used to have me (Bean) next to his girlfriend (Becky) and I got some stuff that was just WTF??? People please: if you are going to send flirty (or graphic) texts, check the “send to”! Personally, I like the flirty texts. I only see my SO every 3 weeks or so and it keeps a light mood and a way to foster some intimacy during the longer stretches. ---

My wife and I were living pretty far apart for a while when we were dating, so one night after driving home I texted her “Made it home safe. Goodnight, love you.” About ten minutes later my older brother called and said “thanks for letting me know, goodnight, love you too” We still laugh about this often, and it was almost 2 years ago. ---

I got a text from an unknown number once that said Jenny really wanted to suck my dick. Called all the people I know named Jennifer. Wasn’t true. Much face lost.
