Actually, Shodan’s link did not even address the point to which he claimed to be responding.
The original statement was that most of the poor work. His “response” only addressed full time employment, carefully ignoring all the poor who work part time.

It links to census data; you even quoted the link. But those are older numbers. I posted 2014 numbers elsewhere:

Here (.pdf) are better data (USCB) on people living in poverty in 2014.

26.5MM age 18-64 lived in poverty.
16.4MM (62%) of them did not work.
7.1MM (27%) worked, but not full-time, year-round
3.1MM (12%) worked full-time, year-round

However as pointed out, not all those people can work. And official poverty lines don’t necessarily match what many of us would think of as poor.
