Epic battle movies

Mamluks are Tolkien’s cross between elephants and mammoths.

No, mûmakil are Tolkien’s cross between elephants and mammoths. Mamluks are something completely different.

Princess Mononoke has huge forces arrayed against each other, but the battles themselves are not really the focus of the movie. The ones they do show, however, are quite impressive, and the film does a really good job of portraying the epic scope of the conflict. It generates that same fluttering gut feeling that the combat in good war movies does, but really, the conflict extends far beyond the battlefield.

It’s animated (which may put some off), but it’s one of the most intelligent, creative, and awe-inspiring movies I’ve ever seen.

O.K., I admit it. I was exaggerating, something I usually try to avoid doing. What I should have said was that “it was for the most part accurate.” Zulu is still well-worth watching.

Nobody cares if telephone poles get killed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Besides, them poles was in Africa!

Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards had some epic battle scenes. The guy was an embarrassment later, but give him his due on this.
