Epiphanies

scratch1300’s post about the stars reminded me of an epiphany I had in my freshman astronomy class.

We were required to go up to the roof after dark and chart the course of the stars for about four hours. As I drew little arrows showing their movement, all of a sudden I realized that they weren’t moving at all – I was moving because the earth was turning. It almost made me dizzy that I was standing on this big, rotating ball. Suddenly I really “got” that the earth turns on its axis.
