Epson Printers can lick my...

Did you ever solve your Outlook issue?

What was the problem?

Sorry bout that-- I got the good one!

Mine must have been the one they sent to PCWorld magazine

Bummer, sounds like a nice HP might be the way to go.

[starts nervously eyeing his own C80. . . ]

Hmm… my Epson likes to damage things once in a while, but it still prints… it’s around 18 months old, a 777 model.

Considering how I sometimes use it as an ottoman  , I’m glad it can still print.

HP’s only problem is their mindbogglingly shitty drivers, which appear to be written by DVD menu designers, using their arses to type. But since HP printers are such popular things, the default windows drivers are always available, and work like a charm.

For example, when I had the HP version of the HP1100 drivers installed on my machine, font sizes larger than 50-odd would cause the printer to reject the print job on the grounds of “not enough memory”. With the MS drivers, everything’s ticketyboo (and a damn sight faster on normal pages to boot). Hurrah for MS!

Sorry I can’t join the pile-on, but I bought a refurbed Epson Stylus Color 600 a few years ago and it’s goven nothing but sterling service. If and when it breaks down, maybe I’ll moan about it, but that time hasn’t come yet. I will admit to some annoyance about the tedious head-cleaning dance.

I take a cruise through the computer retailers every once in a while, and I have to say, I’m not impressed with the robustness of construction of any manufacturer’s printer these days. More and more, they seem to be little more than the flimsiest of carriers for manufacturer’s overpriced cartridges.

Aside from the cost of replacing ink crtridges our Epson does a fine job of meetig our printing needs, it’s an 880.

Our neighbour has an Epson 3000 commercial printer that will accept massive sheets of paper and print forever once the cartridges have been refilled.

Mind you, it’s worth about 3G here.

PC load letter? the fuck does that mean?!

Huh? Where did you see that?

no, buy laser.

I just got a Epson Stylus CX5200. Color ink-jet/flat bed scanner. Can do photo quality printing.

Two-hundred goddam dollars!

Cheap, high quality, multi-functional. I’m submitting it to the Vatican for beatification.

I like laser printers… but I also need laser printers able to print in color, not just black and white. Color laser printers are still being considered as for commercial use only, although last time I checked there were a couple that looked that could be for home use.

The heck they are. It’s expensive… but not that bad. Just discovered that by myself, by accident, for work.

899.00 isn’t cheap, but good god, it’s about the same as a computer, and it’s a lot better than six grand.

It’s a quote by the Michael Bolton character in the movie “office Space”.

BTW: I’m fairly happy with my Canon BJC-6000 printer. Four seperate ink cartridges which are pretty easy to refill. It does have a slow, noisy initial startup though.

I’m not sure, it sort of went away… I was getting TCP timeouts and disconnects etc, but it was so erratic that I couldn’t quite work out where the problem lies.

Yeah, I need colour printing too; I have a colour laser on the floor in my office, I really ought to see if it still works, but it’s such a hassle.

My desktop PC came bundled with an Epson Stylus, which was quite simply the worst printer I’ve ever used. Noisy, slow, and juddered so much in use that it made the entire desk wobble. The print quality was barely adequate too, meaning I always had to think twice about using it to print formal documents.

I’m now a HP convert, and would probably never buy anything else again. My PSC750 all-in-one has been fantastic, and compared to the old Epson, the difference is like night and day. No need for a separate scanner, and the copier function is handier than I first thought it would be, too.

Oh, and it’s dirt cheap now; about UKP £90 in many stores. I paid twice as much for mine :(.

I like my Epson C80. However, I will easily concede that my Epson 777 sucked. Then again, I remember the days of dot matrix and having to use an entirely different printer for color printing and not just being able to switch an inkjet cartridge. Heck, I used a HP 600 for about a decade before it finally gave out. The only problem I had with it in its later life was having to switch cartridges and using the color more quickly if I had to do black as well, as it had to mix it from the color.

Trust me, even that Epson 777 beat the hell out of my old Epson black-and-white dot matrix and whatever the color dot matrix was (I think it was called a Rainbow Star). And those ribbons were a major pain in the ass.

Actually, I should get me a color dot matrix again. It’s the only thing that can easily do banners.

Our Epson Stylus 800 color now only prints with lines throught the text and color even after 6 head cleaning cycles. It’s just awful and at the time was top-o-the-line. It is barely used, but I assume that was part of the problem.

I’m looking for a new color printer with photo capabilities, can anyone recomend a good review site so I can do some research?

I like the Deskjet 6122. Nice and simple. Not a WinPrinter where the drivers cause a load on the CPU, as far as I can tell. No fancy bits. Prints. Prints color. Has a handy laser to align the paper with. Has a sealed paper tray to stop dust. Can fit 8x14. Handy envelope slot.

For color ink jets, I always go with Canon.

For home-use lasers, Brother is amazing.

I wouldn’t buy an Epson or an HP if they were on sale at the dollar store.
