Most conspiracy theories don’t have positive side effects. The Palin baby conspiracy theory (or, rumor, whichever) had a massively positive side effect. In the race to dispel the silly rumors that should have just been ignored, Palin’s people gave out an official story which made Palin out to be horrifically, mind-bogglingly, unbelievably irresponsible and stupid. You can’t beat that with a stick!
