In case you care, Equipoise, I think you come off snobbish on occasion, perhaps unwittingly, but true. Also, \*\*Attack the Block \*\*was an entirely mediocre film. ---

What I find slightly annoying about her is that I’ve never heard her criticize a film. All she ever seems to talk about is how awesome the movies are. She just gushes praise all over everything and it gets repetitive. Has she ever seen a film she didn’t like? Ever called a movie a piece of shit? So no, she’s not a snob, but can still be annoying. ---

there seems to be no thread about movies in this forum, sorry, I meant ‘board’. Instead of ranting about the resident Ms Movies what about talking movies ? A favourite movie of mine (the list is growing all the time) is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I find the story and specially the ending poignant. The script by Charlie Kaufman & Michel Gondry realistic (naturalistic) and the ethical implications of the procedure (selective memory erasure) worth of philosophical rumination. Michel Gondry love of technology and music is evident. he has made some good music videos. OK, he is French so being an auteur comes naturally to him. Just joking ---

I have to agree. I don’t think she’s a snob or even remotely needs to be pitted, but she is kind of useless when it comes to talking about movies. She likes _everything_. I respect her passion, and I am truly happy she has a hobby she enjoys, but Roger Ebert she ain’t. See, one thing is, I don’t _go_ see movies I don’t think I’ll like. Why waste the time and money? I see things that I think will be interesting. Usually they are. If they aren’t, as well, the next will be better. And it usually is. Second, if I don’t like something, I tend to forget about it immediately. I don’t think about it, I don’t write about it. I don’t waste my time when there are so many good movies. You want a recent movie I hated? **Elles**. It’s a Polish film starring Juliette Binoche. It’s about a journalist who decides to write an article about student prostitutes and gets all stupidly psychological about it. IMO it was boring and dumb. A good concept ruined by the lead character and the idiotic things she does. Not the actress, I love Binoche, just the character. I hated it. Absolutely frickin’ hated it. Thanks for making me think about a movie I forgot about the second I left the theater. I was very, VERY disappointed in the recent films Mirror Mirror, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Prometheus for very different reasons. There were things I liked about them but I expected greatness and none delivered. But, I forgot about them the second I left the theater. Who cares what I think? I’d come up with more but I have to go to work. I’ll see if I can’t try to satisfy some arbitrary notion of how to counteract charges of snobism. Syme, I love Hollywood films if they’re done right. Loved The Hunger Games and The Avengers. Monkey, we don’t eat bread, so no toaster. Must go, ta ta. Tally ho and all that. ---

As for gushing, it’s actually very difficult to convey what makes a work of art engaging. I’ve tried hard, and largely failed. It’s far easier to slag things off in an entertaining way, but that can fool people into thinking the slagger actually has something perceptive to say. I don’t personally need to hear any more about Happy Rhodes’ urban trail of destruction, but in terms of annoyance it’s not even a one out of ten. If someone’s posts don’t interest you, vote with your feet, you don’t actually have to read them. Starting a lazy and inaccurate pit thread over a post that can be read as a minor threadshit is a complete waste of time. We must get a hundred posts like that a day and we’ve all probably done it. Can we all just climb off the superiority wagon please? I’ve got a dead rat here, anyone for a game of football? ---

From the thread in question, I looked at the Netflix description of all of those movies, added about half, about another quarter were already in my queue.
