# ER Question.......

Having searched the archive and also the web without success, can anyone of you enlightened, erudite, posters(?) answer the following:

Given the phrase  
“That man needs an IV drip, stat!”.

[Now I know that “stat” means immediately (or sooner).]

What does “stat” actually mean…?  
While I’m here, does anyone remember a song called “Shakedown Street”, and who sang it?

“stat” is short for the Latin “statim”, which means “at once”, “instantly”, “immediately”
