There’s also the alternative of using “cx,” etc. instead. That’s the way it’s done in the email course I’m taking. Same goes for the breve: use “x” after the vowel.

I use the h-sistemo because it was the one recommended by Zamenhof, besides which I think it looks better. The only time I use the iks-sistemo is when I’m typing a list which I will then have to alphabetize.

Anyway.

Well, I doubt there’s anything could be done with ‘Tengu’, but, hey, there’s always a chance, I guess…

Tengu are creatures from Japanese mythology - often depicted as half bird, half man, or else as aged preists. They live in mountains, and rather enjoy screwing with humans. They’re often referred to as Mountain Goblins, but I’ve never been fond of that phrase. 😛

I think I’d go with ‘Birdman’, if I had to translate it.

Kvin? I know a teensy bit of Esperanto myself, Matt. Shouldn’t it be Kvin **o**? I’m a person, place or thing, after all.

“Kvino” would be a figure “5”. Generic, allpurpose five is just Kvin.

Cool! Please tell me my name in Esperanto! The full thing is

Patricia Frances Marvel.

And, um, could you please tell me my husband’s? His full name is

George Lewis Sulea.

Thanks! I first heard of Esperanto from watching old episodes of “Red Dwarf.” Is there an Esperanto-for-Dummies type of book you’de recommend?

Patty Marvel

I should note that usually we don’t Esperantize real people’s names, with certain classical, royal, and other famous names (Sokrato, Platono, Shekspiro, Elizabeta II). But it can be done if you want!

Patricia Frances Marvel: Patrika Franciska MARVEL.
George Lewis Sulea: Georgo Ludoviko SULEA.

Marvel: Mirindulo.

Learning Esperanto: Give [this](http://www.geocities.com/Athens/9372/home.html) a try, or email me and we can discuss it.

Yes, but in my case “Five” isn’t generic, allpurpose five, it’s my _name_. Doesn’t that call for the -o affix or some other distinction?

“-isto” is neutral and works for both men and women without mentioning sex (unlike French, where “le docteur”, although it can be applied to women, is a masculine noun.) If you had to specifically make the word feminine, for some reason, it could be “sfeniskistino”.

Rereading your question, though, I note that it is ambiguous. Do you mean a studier of girl penguins? If so, that would be a “sfeniskinisto.”
