If they would have picked **Esprix** apart with a carefully crafted series of cogent arguments, peppered with obscenities, and leaving him frothing at the keyboard, I’d probably applaud them. In the mean time – “You suck, loser,” isn’t gonna garner any applause from me. Now, I too have a broad range of things that entertain me. Most people do. But it’s a bit of different arena here. This is more interactive. This is actual communication, not passive “take it or leave it” stuff. I’m sorry if you don’t see it, but I found the attitude at that other board laughable. **ARGH! MY THREADS BEEN HIJACKED!** I’ve decided that it would be best to address people one at a time, then end with a general comment. **Jack Batty** : For those of you that haven’t taken the time to read either my posts or Jack’s, I’ll summarize our discussion: **Me** : When in Rome, do as the Romans do. **Jack** : When in Rome, the Romans are immature 12 year olds. It’s interesting that **Jack** , a day after dismissing my entire body of work as “a bunch of whining,” started to liberally plagerize from it. Example: **Me, circa 24 hours ago** : We’re talking internet comics here, not the cure for cancer. Whether I’m credible on the subject of funny pictures on the internet is not really a big deal to me. I’m not sure why it is to you. **Jack, circa 24 minutes ago** : NONE OF THIS MATTERS! It’s just a message board. As embarrasing as it must be to frequent the same message board as an immature 12 year old (Note: I’m talking about myself), it must even more embarrassing for you to copy from the Cliff Notes of his posts. I’d pick apart some more of your posts, but I’m not going to waste my time on the _son of a Vietnamese prostitute_. **Everyone that Posted In Support of Me** : I see you babies. Thankses bunches. **Everyone that posted about my name** : The actual unspaced version is “The Grim Spectre O’ Fred Death”, of “Fred” for short. Tee Hee! **dalovindj** : Thanks for the support, although I still will hold both you and the countries that support you responsible for the hijacking of this thread. **General Comments** : As I was showering this morning, I used the down time to ruminate on, oddly enough, the flame war that erupted between **Esprix** and I. It seems to me that the reason he posted this thread and the reason I tracked it down with “_Talking-Behind-My-Back Sniffing Dogs_” is the same. We both couldn’t believe that anyone could reasonably think that we hadn’t won the first exchange on the Sinfest board. Esprix posted this thread to affirm what he knew to be the truth: his mature and erudite posts had been unsuccessful not because they were weak flames, but because the audience reading them was too young and immature to understand them. My original post in this thread was similarly motivated: I _wrecked_ **Esprix**. I _toasted_ him to a perfect golden brown, like a really tasty marshmellow. For some reason, Dopers were unable to see this. It must be, I concluded, that the posts of my friends was causing them to lose the real focus: My schooling of Esprix in the deadly arts. Obviously, if I posted the flames belonging to just us two, the SDMB would be forced to recognize my superiority. Neither of us was correct. The reason hit me as a started to squeeze Herbal Essences onto my head (I’m in the shower, remember?) **We weren’t speaking the same language.** I might as well been speaking Chinese, for all Esprix understood my posts. I mean, he took my “Yo Mama” joke seriously! Why the hell would someone do that? Conversely, Esprix really was speaking a different language. Was this guy speaking Latin? What a pretentious asshole! And what the hell does YMMV mean, anyway? **When in Rome.** This phrase allows me two victories. The first, on the sinfest board, in which I beat esprix according to **Local Custom** (Yes, it is hopelessy nerdy to refer to the social mores and code of conduct of a message board as “Local Custom”). The second, here, in which I have hopefully managed to turn public opinion of me around 180 degrees. The fact that this idea allows me to win twice is, of course, why I’m so fond of the **When In Rome** philosophy. Of course, there may be some who disagree. There are some who say “What’s right is right, whether in Rome or on the Moon”. And of course, there is a place for moral absolutism. That place just isn’t during arguments on the internet about Cartoons. May the perspective fairy leave a quarter under your pillow tonight. ---

Thanks for your concern, **Jack** , but I think that I have a handle on what “plays in Peoria”. And guess what? It wasn’t your Britney Porn comment that clued me in. In my opinion, it’s the idea that “_Other forums are day care centres for poo flinging simians_” that got you into this thing in the first place. I think I’m gonna _like_ having **Grimspectreofreddeath** around. He’s got an _interesting_ take on things, and is apparantly highly flexible and adaptive in his outlook, not to mention being at least **Esprix** ’s equal in flaming. I hope those aren’t his only tallents, but even if they are, they’re enough. ---

What you have demonstrated to me is a total inability to let a sense of humor creep into a disagreement. This is fine, and I suppose that it serves you well. However, it does prevent you from ever understanding the way the “unwashed masses” (Your phrase) on the Sinfest board interact. I must be strange because I don’t view either the Sinfest Board or the Straight Dope as “better”; just _different_. I suppose your current negative perception of me isn’t a big loss. A little more than 2 days ago, you called me a “twit”. Being called a “jackass” today is, I suppose, a bit of an improvement. ---

I suppose I have dragged on this thread a lot longer than I had too out of a perverse desire for attention (I was the middle child of full time working parents) and quite frankly, my heart is just not in it any more.
