As someone pointed out, Italy was also in the Axis in WW2, although One World War, One Euro doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. If England plays Japan in a WC Final, they will have the set. ---

I think Chelsea Dagger might have actually been a minor hit in the U.K., I’ve heard quite a few bar bands doing covers of it in the U.K. during my trips there ---

Italy was my third least favorite team this tournament, but England is my second so go Italy I guess. ---

No. They are more like American states. In a general election they all vote for the same Parliament. None has an independent foreign policy. None has an independent military. ---

They are still four countries. You are confusing the word “country” with the concept of an independent nation-state. ---

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each have their own parliament. Scotland has its own legal system and education system. They are separate countries. Four countries within one country. ---

On England’s positive side, the “hosting” team is often the winner, and despite it being split across Europe (at the worst of times), the last two games are held at Wembley and in effect a home game. So that’s on their side. However, England’s journey to the final was much easier than Italy (though Germany did seem to be a good team, they weren’t), Italy have face the serious ones of Spain and Belgium, and outlier like Switzerland too. As a Scot living in England, I get to have an outsider view of the toxic England fan experience, a lot of England is a no-go area today, and the drinking will have started at 12. Also remember there’s a lot of “fans” banned for life from football matches, and this is the type of time that lot get out of hand at local pubs. A previous England vs Italy match recently caused a bunch of Italian restaurants to be smashed up in my local area, and I don’t think it matters what the result is for that to happen. But apart from that, I sense that Italy will win this one. The current England team is much more of a team than the “star plus others” of previous times, so it could do it, but it might be more luck than competence. But that happens too. Especially with a home crowd behind them. (I’d also say the penalty which got them there was in no way a penalty). ---

I think we will see a flurry of goals early which will put Italy ahead 2-1. Then England eventually equalizes near the end 2-2 and it all goes into extra time and finally prevail on penalties, at which point the English media goes insane with gushing coverage about how apt it is that Southgate won the Euro on penalties (which we’ve already heard endless similar talk of by now) and every Italy fan needs bodyguard protection on their way out of the stadium despite England having won. Every penalty kick leads to beer being thrown in the air. ---
