The EuroDope Convention is still hovering above us and might one day become a reality… Oh, and I meant you didn’t literally translate those sentences, when I said “weaseling” 😉 “Romantically entangled” should read “carnally involved”, perchance? ---

I thought _I_ was the token Dane here! 😃 I dunno what happened to the EuroDoper convention - nobody seems to want to suggest a date - but maybe we could have a DanishDoper convention!!! Hvad kan jeg sige - det maa väre min tilbageholdende natur… No problem, Scarlet, I’m not after that otherwise much coveted position. Being the token Dane in my real-world workplace is enough to keep me occupied. A DanishDoper convention ? Perhaps not a bad idea. At least we could probably reach an agreement on the date - and the participation might get as high as 100% of the known Danish Dopers. What the hell, we could invite ColdFire as guest speaker and have a respectable part of continental Europe covered… ---

Ooops, sorry about that - apparently a self-confessed Swede-by-proxy got a post squeezed in. Right, before this turns into a replay of the Great Nordic War by message board, I suppose I’d better demonstrate goodwill by declaring myself ready to negotiate a (partial) withdrawal of one or even two of my statements about Swedes. I do, however, remain firmly convinced that they are guilty of building Volvos. ---

Well heck, the only Swedish I know I learned at Ikea. The only Danish I know is my Dansk dinnerware. The only Dutch I know is a dutch-treat date. So, I obviously have nothing to contribute to this thread. But please allow me a brief hijack: Spiny Norman: Your username is my absolute favorite. I just wanted you to know that. Danke sehr, Typen. Green Bean: I believe “vielen Dank” would be better, grammatically. But hell, three years of German and one year of AP (Advanced Placement) German doesn’t seem to stick very well in 'ye olde brain. And for any Germans out there: In the German book that we used in class, there was a singer named Herbert Gronameyer. (I have no idea how to spell his last name, not to mention I have no German modifiers on my keyboard) Does this guy exist, or did they make him up for my German book? The way they descibed him in the book was hysterical. -N ---

I hope moriah’s kidding… Herbert Groenemeyer (the ‘oe’ is an o-umlaut, actually) is a real singer. His classic ballad “Halt Mich” (hold me) is one of my favourites. I’m still up for a EuroDope Convention. Hell, I’ll even fly to Cobenhavn (sp?) to be a guest speaker… what should the speech be about? The usual windmills and clogs stuff, or the advanced hookers and grass version? BTW: beer is a LOT cheaper in Amsterdam, I hear… ---

[thread hyjack] Speakin’ of ole Herbert G… I was in Deutschland around the same time the dubbed-into-German version of Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet was coming out. Instead of calling her “Juliet,” the name was Germanized, into “Julia.” (sounds like UUUUlia.) The image from the TV commercial of Leo Decaprio falling to his knees in Manchua screaming: “UUUUUUULLLLIIIIAAAA!!!” Has consistantly made me giggle whenever I see pictures of Leo. Don’t even GET me started on Forrest Gump dubbed into German. “Lauf, Forrest, lauf, lauf!” ---

Hmmmm, things are shaping up… Cpenhagen, May 27th works for me, big-time. With just a tad of luck I’ll even have my new bike at that time. So: who, when & where ? tatertot: I live in Hamburg - great city. SwimmingRiddles: I couldn’t agree more on the issue of dubbed movies. One of the unfortunate sideeffects (apart from laughing out loud at unfortunate moments and have the entire audience stare at you) is the fact that my entire stock of (english) movie quotes is completely lost on my German colleagues. Sigh. Well, back to work. ---

How does everyone feel about meeting on the Saturday the 27th? Perhaps dinner & drinks? That way, I can do the overnight train thing. I am not picky, I can eat anything except herring. Herring scares me! Has anyone else noticed that whenever we set a date, Coldfire has a reason he can’t come? Hmmmm…I wonder what he has to hide? 😉 ---

Yeah, that’s bloody awesome! How many people are coming? What time? What sort of place y’awl wanna go to? If a lot of people want to show up, it might be helpful to reserve a table. I can offer a bed to one or two people, if you bring a sleeping bag (or at least a blanket). ---

Well, I’m there. I can arrive friday evening or saturday. What sort of place ? Thats an easy one: If there’s beer on tap, no jacket-and-tie rule and no techno music, I tend to be happy. Seriously, I’m not up to date on proper spots in Copenhagen any more. Nyhavn might worth a visit if the weather keeps up ? As far as I can see it’s tatertot, you & yours truly - that might still be a bit below the minimum attendance or ? ---

Just in case any Euro-Dopers haven’t seen this. Saturday works better for me, I can’t leave until Friday afternoon & this way I can finally take an all night train. Almost anyplace is cool with me. My tourist book says you can get free samples at the Carlsberg brewery 🙂 Someplace with food would be nice as I get very hungry when I drink. Although I hope more people decide to come, I think just three will work out very nicely. I just feel bad that I’m the only one who can’t speak Danish!
