Eve, that’s a most exhaustive list. I can’t think of a single addition, and there are many on your list I didn’t know had died until I read it. Kudos for the research. ---

Here’s my guess for the _In Memoriam_ segment at the next Academy Awards: Anne Bancroft, _The Miracle Worker_. Eddie Albert, _Roman Holiday_. (Better choice: _Captain Newman, M.D._) Simone Simon, _Cat People_. Ossie Davis, _Gone Are the Days!_ Teresa Wright, _Mrs. Miniver_. Virginia Mayo, _White Heat_. Geraldine Fitzgerald, _Wuthering Heights_. John Vernon, _Animal House_ (“Double secret probation” scene) Barbara Bel Geddes, _Vertigo_. Brock Peters, _To Kill a Mockingbird_. Sandra Dee, _Gidget_. Ruth Hussey, _The Philadelphia Story_. John Mills, _Ryan’s Daughter_. ---

What intrigues me is the (mostly) advanced age of the actors and actresses. If I’ve counted on my fingers correctly, there are 109 in **Eve’s** list, and 40 of them were over 80 years old, another 24 were over 90 years old, and there was one centenarian. That’s nearly 60 percent of the total above 80 years old. Certainly, that’s not a scientific selection, and it would make an actuary shudder to draw conclusions from such a small sample. But on the surface it least it suggests that treading the boards is not a bad profession if you’re looking for longevity. ---

Now for a really tough assignment, do the list of famous actors and actresses who were _still_ dead in 2005. (And “Roll Call of the Dead” would be a great name for a play- you’d only really need one speaking part.) ---

Not to sound disrespectful or anything, but these lists work a lot better if you think up a new euphemism for “died” for each new entry. ---

The two from the list who surprised me (I somehow missed the stories of their death): Charles Rocket (most famous for saying the “F” word on SNL)- he cut his throat in a cemetery in October, it seems. and Michael McGrory- the giant from _Big Fish_. I sent a sympathy card to Leon Askin’s widow, incidentally, and received a very lovely response (in English). ---
