Out of idle curiosity, where did you get this notion that there are parts of the Constitution that cannot be amended? ---

Zero is equal to zero!); those are somewhat interesting Constitutional questions. Also, a unanimously passed amendment could do anything. And a constitutional convention could probably chuck the whole thing, from “We the people…” all the way to the Twenty-Seventh Amendment, and start over from scratch. Well, duh, he got it from the part of the Constitution that says “this is how you amend this Constitution, except that the bit about all the states having equal representation in the Senate can’t be amended”. Arguing about Constitutional interpretation is one of the great American pastimes, but it’s one thing to say “I don’t think your interpretation of what it means to quarter soldiers in houses in peacetime is correct”, but it’s just flat stupid to say “Out of idle curiosity, where did you get this notion that soldiers can’t be quartered in people’s houses in peacetime? _Durr hurr hurr_.” ---

This would make sense except that a sizable number of people who voted for Trump were Rust Belt white folks who had previously voted for Obama. If they were white bigots they wouldn’t have gone for Obama. ---

Exactly, and when you read the comments in the press and even here on SDMB it’s clear that people have failed to understand the bigger picture. I’ve noticed that the Left has become increasingly agitated about not winning and they’re not getting it. They look at the elections in Montana, South Carolina, and Georgia and they’re citing this as evidence that the party needs a radical shift to the left – and that would be a disaster. What those races show is that…if you actually try to fucking compete in Red states for once, you actually have a chance at winning. And if they can actually develop campaign strategies besides just “Trump sucks” and get a better, more authentic all-American candidate than Hillary Clinton, you might actually start winning some of these. The Left is angry about losing these elections in the Heartland but it hasn’t asked the most obvious question: what has it done to earn their votes in the first place…besides belittling their intelligence? ---

The hatred of women was a major driving force behind the election of Trump and the Republicans. The Right hates women, and put into power a proud sexual predator and a party devoted to tormenting and killing women.
