Out of idle curiosity, where did you get this notion that there are parts of the Constitution that cannot be amended?
Good. Then you’ll stop your petulance, will you?
Article V of the United States Constitution:
Emphasis added.
Pop quiz: What year is this?
- You do see the actually relevant part, right?
“…and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.”
No date limitation there.
Whether or not you could just pass two amendments (The “That bit in Article V about States not being deprived of their equal suffrage in the Senate is hereby repealed” Amendment, immediately followed by the “Fuck those flyover states!” Amendment); whether you could just abolish the Senate entirely (if everyone has zero senators, they all have an equal number of senators, right? Zero is equal to zero!); those are somewhat interesting Constitutional questions. Also, a unanimously passed amendment could do anything. And a constitutional convention could probably chuck the whole thing, from “We the people…” all the way to the Twenty-Seventh Amendment, and start over from scratch.
But just sticking your fingers in your ears and saying “la la la” and being snarky about it doesn’t really work.
You mean the part you highlighted? :dubious:
Please show where the part about “This cannot be amended” cannot *itself *be amended. Let us know when you find it.
Jesus Christ you’re a moron. I specifically said:
“Whether or not you could just pass two amendments (The “That bit in Article V about States not being deprived of their equal suffrage in the Senate is hereby repealed” Amendment, immediately followed by the “Fuck those flyover states!” Amendment)…[is a] somewhat interesting Constitutional question.”
So, yeah, no shit Sherlock, people have thought of that. This whole idiotic exchange started off when you said:
Well, duh, he got it from the part of the Constitution that says “this is how you amend this Constitution, except that the bit about all the states having equal representation in the Senate can’t be amended”.
Arguing about Constitutional interpretation is one of the great American pastimes, but it’s one thing to say “I don’t think your interpretation of what it means to quarter soldiers in houses in peacetime is correct”, but it’s just flat stupid to say “Out of idle curiosity, where did you get this notion that soldiers can’t be quartered in people’s houses in peacetime? Durr hurr hurr.”
Not “whites”; white *bigots, *not whites in general. “White working class” is just code for “white bigots”, because it’s impolite to admit what they actually are.
So yes, the Democrats can’t really appeal to the people who want to enslave or kill the Democratic base. Unfortunately the Democrats seem unwilling to admit that to themselves, and keep betraying their own base in a futile attempt to appeal to people who will never support them.
This would make sense except that a sizable number of people who voted for Trump were Rust Belt white folks who had previously voted for Obama. If they were white bigots they wouldn’t have gone for Obama.
Exactly, and when you read the comments in the press and even here on SDMB it’s clear that people have failed to understand the bigger picture. I’ve noticed that the Left has become increasingly agitated about not winning and they’re not getting it. They look at the elections in Montana, South Carolina, and Georgia and they’re citing this as evidence that the party needs a radical shift to the left – and that would be a disaster. What those races show is that…if you actually try to fucking compete in Red states for once, you actually have a chance at winning. And if they can actually develop campaign strategies besides just “Trump sucks” and get a better, more authentic all-American candidate than Hillary Clinton, you might actually start winning some of these. The Left is angry about losing these elections in the Heartland but it hasn’t asked the most obvious question: what has it done to earn their votes in the first place…besides belittling their intelligence?

Maybe you could try coherent expression for once. Actually, prior to that, you could try having a point. Think you can manage that with a bit of effort, lad?
Look in the mirror, you worthless piece of shit.
What makes you assume that racism is the only kind of bigotry? The hatred of women was a major driving force behind the election of Trump and the Republicans. The Right hates women, and put into power a proud sexual predator and a party devoted to tormenting and killing women.
