In the five years I lived in my old condo, I came close to killing my (mirrored) entry way closet doors at least half a dozen times.
I was actually the ***object ***of such a misunderstanding.
This was back when I lived in NYC. It was a very hot night, and my apartment had no A/C. I had work to do at home, so I moved my desk so that it faced the window, in order to catch an occasional breeze. There was a narrow alleyway between my building and the next, with someone’s window just feet away from mine. I was concentrating on my work, when I heard a woman make a sound somewhere between a scream and a loud gasp. I looked up, into the other window, where an elderly woman was looking out and pointing right at me, screaming . . .
"Oh my god! that looks just like a face!!!
I quietly went back to work, leaving the woman to her delusions.
I wouldn’t say it was a delusion. You DO have a face, don’t you?

I have an evil coat tree as well. My best friend isn’t very stable and he has a door key. He came home after a 24 hour shift, went into the office to answer some e-mail before coming to bed.
The scream would have embarrassed a little girl. We had to give the poor bird away.
We had just moved, and I had a dresser that had a large mirror attached, which was detached for the move. First night in the new house, nobody had reattached the mirror, so to keep it from falling over we leaned it against the wall behind my bed.
So I wake up, feel like somebody’s watching me, lift my head off the pillow and…someone’s watching me! I scream bloody murder, but just as I start to scream I realize that what I’m seeing is my own reflection in that mirror, but it’s too late to stop the scream. And suddenly everybody else who heard it starts coming into my room, but at this point I’ve decided it’s funny, so I’m laughing too hard to explain…My mother thinks I’m hysterical, I get enough out that she realizes what’s happened and SHE gets too hysterical to explain it to anybody else…and so on. So in the end there are four overtired people in my room suffering uncontrollable laughter.
I don’t know about serial killers, but Sadako from The Ring lives in my closet.
