I have lost mine and I couldn’t care less. I will have been divorced for six years as of the 24th of this month. I kept on my spare key ring for safe keeping, but decided to put it somewhere safer and now I can’t remember where that was. It was only a narrow 18kt gold band and I didn’t pay much for it. I did convince my ex to save hers (which I did pay quite a bit for, the last of the bounty I received upon leaving the service with a disability) so that our son may have it when he gets ready to marry fifteen or twenty years from now. Maybe it’ll bring better luck the second time around.

Southlake Park – Overland Park, Kansas.

It was 25 years ago but I can describe exactly where I was standing should you wish to drain the small public lake and start an excavation for it.

Good luck with that

So what should I do with my engagement and wedding rings once I am divorced? (Mind you, the divorce is not my idea). I’m tempted to sell them–where does one do that? (Do not tell me Ebay). Or I could pawn them and send my ex the pawn tickets.

Nope, but I traded my second engagement ring for a harmony ball at the Calgary Stampede once.

Its nice (the harmony ball I mean) - mother of pearl.

My great-grandfather’s first wife died, and he later remarried. The new wife was terribly jealous of the first wife (even though she was dead), to the point of scratching out the first wife’s face in old pictures and things. At one point the second wife got angry enough that she threw my great-grandfather’s wedding ring from the first marriage into the garden.

Years later, my father and mother are living in the same house my great-grandparents had lived in and the garden is still in the same spot. One morning after it rained my father was walking through the garden, looked down, and saw the wedding ring gleaming up at him. I’ve always thought that was incredibly cool.

I’ve been divorced for a while now, and I can’t quite figure out what to do with my rings. I took the engagement ring to various jewelry shops/pawn shops, but knowing how much my ex paid for it, I couldn’t bear to part with it, even for the prices they offered (damned common sense)…I guess it’ll just sit in a box for a while.

What the heck is a harmony ball? For that matter, what is the Calgary Stampede, and why would you trade jewelry there?

I’m still married, but I don’t have my ring. It belonged to my father and he wore it through most of his marriage. It was replaced when they bought another ring for him during one of the anniversary milestones.

It’s a cool band, if only because it was so worn, particularly on one side, which presumably was on the underside of the finger. It was too small for my finger, and I kept wanting to take it into the jewelers to be resized, but never did.

The ring finally broke on that thin side, and I set it aside to be repaired. I hope(!) it’s still in my chest of drawers with all my other jewelry that I don’t wear. I don’t like to wear anything on my fingers and wrists, so it’s never bothered me much to take care of it.

But I’m glad to have the ring.
