I found out the person I spent a great deal of time getting over (and never stopped loving) still loves me 30 years later. I was content to think she was happy with her choices. Alas no. Long, sad movie of the week if anybody needs a script. ---

As a 23 year old, this thread is totally foreign to me. I grew up in an age where all of my friends and acquaintances and old boyfriends are on facebook and my facebook friends. Some I’m close with, some I’m not, but they’re all just a click away. You grow up knowing they’re never more than a click away. It’s difficult for many to practice self-restraint. Certainly different than my mom finding her ex-fiance last week by accident while looking up some past political contributions she (and my dad) made. ---

Since our parents own units in the same condo building, we might bump into each other every 10 years or so. The last time I did a double-take because she looked so different that I didn’t even recognize her at first. She was with her husband and you could always read her like a book (something I adored at the time), and man was she nervous talking to me with him there. Last year she was playing the piano downstairs, and I knew it was her even tho the door was closed (she was singing too-sounded like she was in emotional turmoil to be honest). But I fear my presence in her life would just cause her pain, so I didn’t barge in. The other one I met in grad school after I unfucked myself, but I apparently awoke too many strong feelings in her, so that was that. On a lark looked her up last month, and they had a photo on her work website, and…yeah. I would have almost been tempted to do a [discreet inquiry](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_5PIv9qYZA) as to how she’s doing, until I was shocked to the core by the photo.
