I’m considering applying for a census job, but I’m a retired Federal employee and I want to check out how it would affect my pension first. (I seem to remember that being “rehired” for a Federal job has some effect on a Federal pension, but I’m not sure exactly what it is.)
I did it in 1990, and was a good job. I lived in a town where I could go most places by bicycle, so I just biked around and interviewed people. I also had interviews in other towns that I had to drive to. It was really interesting to meet such a wide variety of people. I met people I would never have known about otherwise. And the pay was good and the hours were totally flexible.
