This whole thing is kind of weird, from the rationale to the timing.
Green Boots isn’t obstructing the path, the body is off to the side. It’s on the Tibetan side of the mountain, which China has since closed off to foreign climbers. Presumably, the rescue team will summit from the Nepal side and climb down the Northeast ridge to the body about 350m below the summit.
In the request for bids, the Indian government identifies the body as Dorje Morup, which they say “has been confirmed through a prior verification process conducted under an earlier tender/technical assessment.” Maybe they aren’t so sure of the identity?
And why the timing, that the body must be transported to Delhi by October? It’s monsoon season now, the next climbing window doesn’t open until sometime in September and running through November. Seems odd to rush this after the body has been there for 30 years.
