They will however gladly suck up all the free propaganda material they can. They will probably act as outraged as the OP is. Then there is a sizable portion of the Muslim community that just won’t care. But what this will actually do is offend the 80% who up until this point were rather undecided. This is the group that wept on 9/11 and were disgusted that people corrupted their faith. This is also a group that was pissed two countries were invaded. And now they’re kind of back on the fence. They don’t like terrorists, but they also don’t give a shit about Westerners. So when you collectively take a big dump on their front lawn, do you think they are going to thank you? Heh, isn’t that was Bush said about invading Iraq? I don’t, I think they’re going to be disgusted by it, and be a little less likely to discourage their sons from joining a terrorist cell. I will agree that _technically_ this should have been done after the Danish cartoons, that’s what’s called ‘striking while the iron is hot.’ Your iron is very cold and rather ineffectual. In any case, you’ve got about 25 days to think of something better. Matt and Trey put in about 4 or 5 hours of effort and came up with a two part cartoon. Why not make this a challenge, turn it into one of those MBA group projects, or something you’d see on The Apprentice. Think about who you are targeting, think about what is important to them, how they think, the reasoning (or lack there of) that they use. What message and what way will get through to them. What are the side effects? What are the likely negative outcomes. This giant stunt won’t work the way you think it will. You’re fishing with hamburgers. You like hamburgers, but fish want worms. ---

No, it’s more like we wear shoes in our own houses and then Japanese people start issuing hits on us for not taking them off first. In free countries all over the world, Muslim immigrants are insisting that their beliefs and customs are paramount and that host countries adopt changes in their way of life in order to accomodate them. Appeasement in the face of threats to freedom only results in more demands, more threats and more appeasement. It never ends. It’s way past time that the Western world stood up to these people and told them either to assimilate or go live in one of the many places in the world where their standards are the norm. It is not incumbent upon us to sacrifice our centuries-long freedoms and way of life in order to accomodate another culture, and one that doesn’t begin to know the meaning of accomodation toward or respect of other people’s beliefs and religions at that. Cartoon day is not intended as an insult, but as a message that we are not going to allow ourselves to be intimidated into changing our ways of life because someone else doesn’t like them and will attempt to kill us if we don’t. This is dog-simple and should be perfectly obvious to anyone eight years of age or more. You don’t appease bullies. Period! Doing so only results in more bullying, and we are seeing that now with regard to the South Park episode. ---

Walking up to somebody and calling him names is more rude. Drawing a picture of something is not rude by any objective measurement, it’s just something one group of people does not do. Drawing a picture of Muhammad fucking a goat or whatever would offend Muslims, sure. But that does at least mock one element of their religion. Drawing a picture of Muhammad in and of itself isn’t any more offensive than not keeping the sabbath. ---

Out of curiosity, since this specific case started 5 years ago, has there been “more threats and more appeasement” for things other than the drawings of Mohamed? Shouldn’t we be a long way down the slippery slope? Cartoon day may not be intended is an insult, but that’s exactly how it will be interpreted. Also, if the goal is to create millions of targets, what happens if there is only a couple? And every 8 year old knows not to antagonize a bully until they’re fully prepared to eat a shit sandwich. If that is your analogy you are picking a fight that I don’t think you want to see through to the end. ---

Which is why I will remain suspicious of their actual motives until May 21st. You might say I’ve watched too many episodes of South Park to know that Cartman is never genuine in his outrage. Seriously, watch the Cartoon Wars two part-er, it will ruin Family Guy for you forever. Which is why my new prediction is this: the person starting this doesn’t hate Muslims, he hates Israel. I heard a really weird rumor about Syria supplying newer, more accurate, long range missiles to Hezbollah. This whole fake outrage stunt is meant to get the Great Satan to stir up anger in the easily outraged teenagers of Palestine. Enough anger and they do something stupid like kidnap an Israel soldier, then Hezbollah gets to test their new missiles. rinse lather repeat. Dance puppets, dance! And what ever you do don’t bother looking up to see who is pulling your strings, just keep dancing. ---
