Either that, or people can have it on the condition that any current or future children of theirs are legally required to be vaccinated for all the usual diseases. No takebacks - failure to vaccinate will result in the children being removed from their care and then vaccinated.
I’m also tempted to limit it to those 18 and older, but I’m sure there’s some nasty perverse incentive that will crop up if I do.
Been thinking. I’ll give the cure to anyone on one condition: someone else has to volunteer to be vaporized so that specific person can be ‘cured.’
And then, in a Skaldian twist, the volunteer is cured and the person willing to let someone else die for them is vaporized instead. Muuuahahaha! I should totally be world dictator for life. 'Twould be a wacky old world.
This may not be as easy as you think. If you wait until 90% of the population dies off your going to be left with nothing but octogenarians to continue the human race.
Even if you just wait until 90% of the female population is post menopause you are still going to have a large increase in the rate of chromosomal abnormalities and a totally screwed up demographic profile.
I’m not interested in putting in place a morals or ethics test, if that was the case basically most of the people who could pay for it wouldn’t qualify. And yes I would charge for it.
It creates some very interesting social questions about what could happen to 3rd world countries and the like if it was completely withheld from them.
What would happen to the continent of Africa if no humans were fertile?
If North Korea believed they were going to die out by not being able to keep breeding, would they start firing nukes having nothing to lose?
If only the wealthy people were able to breed, who’s going to do all the work? Will the economies of 1st world countries inevitably collapse?
Damn, talk about playing god.
I think I’d wait about 10-15 years, a large chunk of a generation go passed, during which time I’d manufacture all the pills I needed.
Then start playing with the world. By now there’s no one in the world under the age of 10-15. So I start by selling it to those who can afford it, with a short criteria.
Can’t already have kids
Men must be under 40 but over 25
Women under 30 and over 21
Hire someone to get advice on consequences of partial or totally withholding from some countries. Take the rest from there.
Oh yeah, I didn’t think about that. Hmmm, we need to get the population down, but we still need breeding stock. I guess we’d need to give the cure to some people in a trickle fashion at first - I’d go with some sort of application process, I guess - no babies if you aren’t an excellent candidate for breeding.
That all sounds good to me. I like the idea of a group of consultants looking at how best to use this opportunity to unscrew the world.
What’s market value? Market value here in the states would be genocide in Africa. Actually, when you consider how sharply wealth is divided along racial lines here in America, market value here might have some very nasty racial implications.
I’d give it to everyone who wants it, forever. No time limits, no tests, no nothin’. Want to wait a while, then take it? Sure. Want it now? Fine. Want it even though you’re congenitally deaf, or haemophiliac, or you’ve got Huntington’s? Not my place to tell you not to procreate. Procreation is a basic human right, and for any outside force, be it a government or a church or a company to intentionally deny that to a person is wrong.
I’d probably use it for blackmail/highway robbery…if only because I’d feel certain that someone was going to re-discover the cure, eventually, so I might as well profit while I can.
