I think people are wrongly assuming that **BCP** is older than he is. He is 20 years old. Which is old enough to know better about some things. But he’s still fuctionally a teenager. ---

As I said in a different thread, I think, not taking into account his history, it’s just a failed attempt at dry humour. It’s a tricky thing to pull off. Now that I’ve read all the uproar about this and his history with the mods, I’ll be curious if the mods will accept the old “But everyone knows I’m an asshole!” defense by BPC. ---

And it is context. It’s not just dropping a Jew joke. It’s a Jew joke in a thread about vermin (the language used by the Nazis in their propaganda) and from someone who claims to be living in Germany. No one is that tone deaf. ---

Was “Springtime for Hitler” and “The Producers” anti-Semitic? Was “Blazing Saddles” racist? Mel Brooks made a joke about how Jews are the “chosen people” and how maybe he would like to ask God if He might choose somebody else for a while. He’s anti-religious, or anti-Jewish in the religious sense, rather than the ethnic? He went to Europe to fight the Nazis, most I ever do is scold one. He was drafted, true, and spent his war clearing land mines. But I still figure he’s paid some dues, and I can rely on his judgement about permissible boundaries when it comes to “Jew jokes”. Don’t think he would have laughed, mind, but only because the joke is not very good. Not proven. ---

I sort of did a literal intake of breath when I read it. He wasn’t being edgy or anti-Semitic or ironic. He was being just plain fucking dumb. He’s old enough to know not to behave that way. ---
