is mentioned in the April issue of Vanity Fair. The page of book reviews says “Eve Golden reels through the life of silent-film star _John Gilbert_ (University of Press of Kentucky).” _John Gilbert_ is the title of the book. ---

I was thrilled when I turned the page in _Vanity Fair_ and saw Eve Golden’s name! I’ve already ordered the book. Yay **Eve**! ---

I have been wondering how she is and how she got thru Superstorm Sandy. (I didn’t have internet at that time.) ---

The blurb reviews on [Amazon](http://www.amazon.com/John-Gilbert-Silent-Screen-Classics/dp/0813141621/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1363647411&sr=1-1&keywords=john+gilbert) keep saying ‘definitive.’ No buyer reviews, yet, because they’re still taking preorders. ---

Since this [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=685558&highlight=john+gilbert) is old, here is a spiffy new one. One blogger has [mentioned](http://ladailymirror.com/2013/04/05/talking-with-eve-golden-about-john-gilbert/) a couple interviews she has had about the book. Seeing the cover of the book points out how he managed to climb to the top of the studio heap of the day, having seen him on netflix a few times [I have a thing for old movies] I can see how he managed to stay there! ---

Anyone else ever seen _Bardelys the Magnificent_? I saw it at the Kansas Silent Film Festival back in 2009, when we had it’s restored premiere. I fell in\* love\*! Gilbert’s daughter had been lined up to be a speaker, but her health and age ended up prevented her from being here.☹ ---

What a wonderful review . . . “DEFINITIVE!” . . .and I can’t wait to see all the photos of this gorgeous man. (I’ll try not to drool on the book.) ---
