In the past there were times when **Evil Captor** IMHO gratuitously brought up BDSM in threads where it wasn’t relevant, but I don’t see a problem with him starting a Cafe Society thread about a current, mainstream Hollywood movie that deals with BDSM. **Evil Captor** ’s _50 Shades_ thread does bother me for another reason though: it seems to be based on a total strawman. He claims that “all the pretentious movie critics” had it in for this movie and expected or even wanted it to fail, but ignored my request for the names of some of these critics. All the reviews I’ve seen of _50 Shades_ have been mixed, with the critics saying it’s at least somewhat entertaining even if it isn’t very good, and I didn’t see any critics predicting that it would flop. [Later in the thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=18137103&postcount=13) **Evil Captor** says that he himself expected the movie to be bad and won’t be going to see it, but is somehow still angry that unnamed critics supposedly thought that it would be bad and that people wouldn’t go to see it. ---
