How could you forget a name like Gen. Jack D. Ripper?
The entire cast of Payback; Mel Gibson and James Coburn were the best of the best.
I don’t think Lord vetinari is evil at all, rtaher, True Neutral in that he really does whatever he feels is necesary for his cause. He could even be Lawful Nuetral - as long as they’re *his * laws.
You are all apparently overlooking some very important facts:
-No one hits like Gaston
-Or matches wits like Gaston
-In a spitting match nobody spits like Gaston (He’s espcially good at expectorating!)
And he was quite hot, for a cartoon. The only thing was, the Beast was hotter when he changed back.
Although I was a bit miffed that the “bad” guy was a brunette, and the “good” guy was a blonde. Humph.
Lawful for sure, but I think the throwing people into scorpion pits and letting them fall to their death if they don’t do what he wants kind of sticks him in the evil category.
This one will be obscure to most of my fellow USers, but our cousins to the north will pick up on it:
Albert Golo from the Canadian drama North of 60, played by Gordon Tootoosis. Quite possibly the most complex character ever created in series television. You are never quite sure of his motivation. Is he working only for his own interests, or does he have the interests of the band at heart as well? Are his methods evil? Or merely pragmatic? Fascinating character.
Add in another vote for Scorpius from Farscape, that character constantly keeps you on your toes
when you first meet him, you’re put off by his creepy, deathlike appearance, and his aura of cold detachment, he’s willing to do anything to achieve his end results, regardless of who it hurts, you wonder if he has any redeeming traits at all
then midway thru season 2, you experience his backstory, his tortured childhood, his guilt over his birth killing his mother, his mental and physical abuse at the hands of the Scarrans, and you begin to understand the depths of his hate for the Scarrans
you almost begin to…pity…him, you start thinking “maybe he’s not such a bad guy after all”
Season 3 exposes you to more Scarrans and you suddenly find yourself thinking “maybe we should let Scorpy take out the Scarran threat, woud it really be bad to give Scorpy wormhole tech?”
then in Season 4, Scorpy does something so evil, you can never forgive him, and you find yourself thinking you were right all along in keeping WT away from Scorpy…
then, he saves the life of the crew of Moya, and you start thinking he’s not so bad again
then he does something unforgivable again…
you never know with Scorpy, is he working for the PK, the Scarrans, Himself, just when you think you can trust him, he does something to shatter that trust
Kudos to Wayne Pygram for one of the most developed, three dimensional villians on TV
now, if we could just get him to put bonnie hammer and the rest of the suits at the skiffy channel in the Aurora Chair and implant a Neural Clone in their minds, frell the Scarrans, it’s the suits at skiffy that are the real evil here…
(yes, i’m still bitter over the cancellation of 'scape, how could you tell?
and no, the miniseries wasn’t enough, i want Season 5 and beyond…)
