> Yes that is what pings about you post: I didn’t see a vote count in a while but I think Plankton is miles ahead of you. Why are you still focused on “OMG I’m going to get lynched” while you have hardly any votes?
> :

I’m not. I really am not. Last Night, it looked likely, which is when I mentioned getting NK’ed instead.

I’m not even "OMG"ing at all. I’d rather be lynched than a Town power role, but obviously it’s better to let me live since I am Town.

I’m actually surprised Natlaw thinks I’m “OMG” ing about being lynched.

Where did you see this toDay, Natlaw? When I responded to ed’s questions?

Yup, but (written) English is the language at work for me and I read/watch TV in English as well.

The Klaatu thing was more a joke, I don’t think it’s actually connected.

You’re previous post implies we’re lynching you Today and vigging you would free up that lynch for someone else:

I think what confused me: you’re not asking to be vigged next Night but you asked it last Night. Still that leaves you going “OMG I’m getting lynched” last Night, “please vig me now even though I know I’m town”. But most of the PM inconsistenty evidence evaporated before Dusk and it was also clear there was a train building up steam for Plankton.

So back to my original point: don’t ask to be vigged as town (assuming you are of course) unless youhave a very good reason. A couple of votes isn’t.

Oh, don’t feel bad for me…I’ve already lasted as long in this game as in the last two combined, so I’m doing alright 🙂

Regarding lilflower, I did look at her (?) posts last night, but didn’t find that anything jumped out at me. She seems to have been ‘playing it safe’ for the most part…which could be interpreted in any number of ways. I’ll try to take a closer look before the end of the Day.

> Yes although it’s me reading between the line you think him scum - which might be where I got the USCDiver is towny feeling from because you (who I’m voting for) are implying he scum without saying it):

OK, I’ll give you that one. My reply to USCDiver was definitely on the snarky side. I was surprised that he apparently decided that me saying “I’m trying to find Scum” was the Scummiest thing that I’d done, and it seemed to me just the sort of ‘safe’ vote that Scum might be likely to make. I don’t really have much of a read on USCDiver right now; the one thing that stands out most is that it was his post that started the ball rolling against peeker.

**Oy!** , you seem to think I am scum but don’t really have much to evidence to show, which is why I assume you keep asking others to look at me. If you have a strong case, I’d like to hear it. You made a weak link between me and **Telcontar but I’m guessing that’s only because he ended up scum. You didn’t mention that in that same post of Normal** ’s, she mentioned other players, including **Drain Bead** who is looking very townie at this point, and is also someone that you felt worthy of protection. So I think I had a valid point that \*\*Normal \*\*was jumping to conclusions based on who she thought was trying to kill her.

At this point, I am going to
**vote TexCat**

I have found it a pretty reliable scum-tell that someone cannot find anyone to vote for.

> [@TexCat](#):
>
> Yuck. I have no idea who to vote for. As much as NAF still looks scummy to me, I mostly believe Idle’s claim. I also, oddly enough, believe peeker’s claim. Perhaps I am just too trusting? I would really like to not vote, but think that’s always wrong. And so I am going to vote on very feeble reasoning. Sorry, I’ve been out of town, but should be home again mid-week next week, and able to pay a little better attention to the game.

> Another daY when I have no clue who to vote for. Although it has generally been proven that the oddities I found in Mahaloth’s PM could be explained away, I’m still watching him. I am also watching Drain. I still find the timing of her unprovoked claim suspicious. And it looks like her spell might have cancelled the night, but I have to agree that if a scum or 3rd party figured out a way with book or otherwise how to cancel the night, they certainly would have tried to gain town cred with it. I find MrsMc a little over the top. I mostly ignored her feud with peeker (as observed my lack of vote on peeker who I’ve never figured out), but find her posts today protesting her innocence a little too much. I need to relook at Suburban. Nanook and Hal Briston stand out to me as lurkers, though I realize I could be in that category also. Nevertheless, we should not take our eyes off them.

> **lilflower** was quite accusatory toward **Normal Phase** in these posts, and at first blush it struck me that she was being defensive about **Telcontar** , who, after all turned out to be Scum. However, this morning it occurs to me that **lilflower** could be a mason with one of the other three people **Normal Phase** mentioned: **OneandonlyWanderers** , **Drain Bead** , or **Mrs McGinty**. I think we can eliminate **Drain Bead** from that list as a possible mason; she is either the Town Librarian or she is not Town. But the other two could conceivably be masons with **lilflower** , and that might account for her defensiveness toward them and her offense on **Normal Phase**. **lilflower** could be legitimately suspicious of **Normal Phase** for that. Or **lilflower** could be Scum, defending one or more Scum-buddies. Dunno.
>
> I haven’t found anything particularly striking about **lilflower** posts otherwise. I’ve really had to push myself to participate at all in this; I can understand the desire to lurk unobtrusively in order not to make a fool of oneself. On the other hand, I also understand that sitting quietly and keeping your mouth shut (except for non-controversial posts, for example explaining game play to a newbie, as she did for me) is a good way to play Scum.
> \<snip\>

How could you get that I was a Town Librarian? I don’t even know what that is. I think you may be overspeculating here. Basically, I did not like the way \*\*Normal \*\*so definitively stated who she thought had tried to kill her the prior Night. I’m suspicious of anyone who presents their opinions so strongly.

And you are correct that lurking is a good way to play scum. But I’ve played with a lot of lurking townies and frankly, I can understand how it can be annoying. And sometimes you play town so much and do so much analysis and no one pays any attention to you, that you just want to sit back and play a more relaxed game. As I said earlier in this game, I went a little overboard in my last game in terms of my analysis and conclusions and was very disappointed to have been so wrong.

Perhaps, but the fact remains, that I did vote for someone and explained my admittedly rather feeble reasons for doing so. I have not yet voted toDay, but did explain who I was looking at, and I will vote with an explanation before the end of the dAy. Perhaps you should instead look at people who have actually failed to find someone to vote for. My Day 1 chart shows Nanook, peeker, and Suburb without votes down. Day 2 on my chart shows Hal Briston, One and Only, and Total Lost without votes down. (We haven’t had a lot of vote tallies by the mod, so I won’t swear by the accuracy of my chart. Corrections welcomed.) I admitted to having some problems choosing whom to vote for, but I have voted and left a firm record.

On preview, I see that Ed has explained that Drain has claimed town librarian. Oy was pretty clearly referring to Drain as the librarian.

You’re absolutely right. You seem mildly Scummy to me, but I don’t have much evidence, so I’m hoping someone else can come up with more evidence either way to help me decide.

Also, I didn’t say you were a Librarian. I said that Drain Bead was a Librarian (probably) and unlikely to be in a Masonry with you. Doesn’t mean you mightn’t be Masons with **OneAndOnlyWanderers** or **Mrs McGinty** , which might have provoked the same reaction from you that you showed towards **Normal Phase** ’s suggestion that her targeting of these people lead to the attack on her life. Then again, I’m not entirely certain that that attack even happened.

So many unknowns…

By way of adding something new to the mix, I’ve just been doing a quick read on brewha:

One thing jumped out at me: brewha didn’t think we should talk about the book:

> [@brewha](#):
>
> Well poop. Sorry to see you go, Digger.
>
> \*\*Right now, I think the book is more of a distraction than anything. \*\*We don’t know enough about it or about any cabin dwellers to use it effectively. For now, I’m willing give NAF the benefit of the doubt. I don’t think Scum would be eager to grab the book - it looks scummy. Best case, he’s town, worst case he’s PFK. But, I doubt he’s scum.
>
> For now, I suggest that NAF keep the book. But, I propose that he not use any power unless it’s agreed on by a majority - which I realize is very unlikely to happen at this point. That way we know who has the book and can hold him accountable if anything happens while it’s in his possesion. I think it’ll be a very powerful tool once our numbers start dwindling.
>
> I am wondering if there’s any other powers in the book. The way I see it, NAF read the first page and discovered 10 powers. Did he read the table of contents, and now knows all there is about it? Could he read more into the book and learn more about it?

Note that after the bolded sentence, he talks about the book. But there’s more. So much that I’ve put the quotes into spoilers, but if (when) you look at them, you’ll see that he talks a lot about the book. Some of this is in regards to whether NAF is lying about losing it etc., so there is an element of case-building there, but it’s also a lot of chat about the book from someone who thinks it’s a distraction.

> [@brewha](#):
>
> Well, that’s exactly my plan - except made to actually work. I wasn’t sure how we could learn more about the book without endangering townsfolk. I’m all for NAF holding it and trying his best to kill himself.
>
> Assuming NAF is town and follows thru with what he says, it pretty much takes the book out of the game and allows us to know where it is and how it can be used.
>
> OTOH, what if NAF is scum? Would we have anyway of know whether or not he is taking action on himself? Or could he use the book against the town without our knowledge?
>
> Also, what if we did lynch NAF? Would it tell us anything? If he’s in possession of the book, wouldn’t he show up ass cum\* - whether he is or not? He’d have to give it up before hand, and by then we’ve wasted a whole cycle.
>
> \*sorry, sorry I couldn’t help it.

> [@brewha](#):
>
> NETA - no I can see a game mechanic that would allow it. Like, if the book were to be used against the biggest baddest hell beast of all - as in evil Ash. As I recall, it’s his book and if it were to be used against him, he could conceivably take it back.
>
> However, that means that either NAF is evil ash (in which case he took it from himself?!?), didn’t use it on himself, or is making shit up.
>
> This is all speculation, but that’s all I got.

> [@brewha](#):
>
> That’s what I was thinking. I can’t see a game mechanic that would allow the book to be taken. There are very specific options and rules laid out by Story, and I saw nothing that would indicate that the book could be taken if you tried to use it.
>
> But, a scum NAF could have grabbed the book and went all noble with the “I’ll sacrifice my self for the greater good schitck” only to end up with it “stolen”.
>
> I’m having a hard time swallowing that one. Sounds like a carefully connived scummy plan to me.

> [@brewha](#):
>
> yes I read that. I assume you’re referring to this part?
> Unless I"m mistaken, it means that anyone can take it **off the desk** at any time day or night. Which would necessitate NAF returning it. Nope, pretty sure NAF still has it.
>
> Unvote Telcontar
> Vote NAF1138

> [@brewha](#):
>
> I had thought of that. That you’d need to know who has the book in order to take it. But, it has been said that if you take the book, everyone will see you take it. It’s no secret as to who has it, so if it were that easy to take it, it’d be essentially worthless.
>
> And no, it doesn’t say off the desk, but it does say that the book is currently on the desk. And then it says that anyone can take it, day or night. It says nothing about the rules once someone possesses the book. It just doesn’t feel right to me.

> [@brewha](#):
>
> Holy shit, this thread blew up in the last couple of hours. I haven’t read (nor will I have time to this evening) the posts from the one I’m quoting to this one, but will first thing in the morning.
>
> First of all (OK so I did skim it)
> I do not have the book.
>
> Secondly, I’m privvy to nothing. I can’t see how the book would be at all usable if it could be taken randomly or at any given time. Like I said, maybe if it were used against the head deadite. Maybe if it were used against any deadite for that matter. But, NAF was supposed to use it against himself.
>
> If someone actually has the power to take the book whenever they want, why have it on the desk in the first place? Why not just have that guy start with it? I just can’t see an in game scenario where it would make sense.
>
> Why not? I guess Im’ just not that imaginative, I don’t know. Can you propose something that would logically make NAF’s stolen book claim make sense?
>
> I’ll be back in the morning.

> [@brewha](#):
>
> Wow, alot to digest here.
>
> First, Thank you Normal Phase for coming forward with that. I thought it might be plausible that NAF was targetted for a night kill by scum and Chip protected him. In E.D. 1 the book was given to the killer of the previous owner. If the previous owner was protected by the Martyr, I would assume that the book wouldn’t change hands, but I could see how that would be a plausible explanation. Course, I didn’t want to offer this up as free out for NAF.
>
> I really need a re-read to see why Normal was targetted. Of course, I gotta put in the disclaimer that Normal could be lying, but I don’t see the motivation at this point.

> Idle, the more you explain yourself, the more suspicious you are becoming. Two other people have already said my thoughts exactly. You were suspicious of NAF when you knew he had and wanted to keep the book. But, now that he claims (a claim that you admit is unverifiable) to no longer have it, you are no longer suspicious. I know you think you’re are being perfectly clear on your reasoning, but, it’s just not doing it for me.

Moving on from that, there’s this:

> I’m finding Peeker increasingly scummy. Not only his refusal to post his PM, but also his feigned outrage at people’s votes for him. The case is valid. Yeah, it may have been an honest mistake or it may have been a scum slip. But, there’s no reason to get all pissy about it.
>
> However, I believe that both Peeks and NAF are scum. And if NAF gets lynched today and still has the book, it will hopefully get buried with him. Frankly, I think the book is just a distraction. And while it may give the holder some special powers, I don’t think it’s worth all the attention we’ve been giving it. I think we’d all be better off to focus on getting scum and not worrying about the book. And, the only way I can see that happening is if the book is out of the game.
>
> Though, I don’t know if Story will tell us about NAF’s possessions if he dies. So, it may still be a distraction if we don’t know it’s gone, whether it is or not.

Although there’s more “Let’s not talk about the book. But seriously, what about the book?” stuff the key point here is the linking of NAF and peeks as Scum. It’s a let vote for peeks (I did too) but the way that brewha tries to use that to push a link to NAF could be an attempt to make the most of a bad job.
The other point is the “dog that barked in the night” one: although brewha has produces lots of content-rich posts, most of that has been speculation about the book and strategy, as opposed to building a case. The one exception to that has been his focus on NAF, but again a lot of that comes across as speculation (what if the book recruited him?) rather than a hard case.

That of course should be “a late vote for peeks”.

I was this close to editing.

While I’ve got the place to myself:

Suburban’s Role PM is a null tell. It proves that he’s vanilla, or he’s scum with a vanilla cover role. The overall pattern of behaviour I think is the scummiest we’ve got in hand. Although I strongly suggest we should all come under more scrutiny than we are.

When **Oy!** said “she”, I thought she was talking about me, not **Drain Bead**. And honestly, I did forget that **DB** claimed librarian. I see it now in my notes but when I checked [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=13073023&postcount=2351) for recent claims, **DB** wasn’t listed. Not that \*\*Natlaw \*\*is to blame - I should have checked myself. I guess “relaxed” is turning into “lazy” for me in this game.
