All right, I’m…well, I won’t say “caught up”, but I’ll go with “skimmed up”.

The first thing that jumped out at me (which has already been pointed out) is **Oy!**'s lamenting our lynch record. I know I draw from this well in just about every game, but it reminds me a bit of (scum godfather) **Darth Sensitive** in The Mafia Is Recruiting – talking about how badly town was doing, when that was not the case at all. Not an exact match to that situation, but close enough to draw my eye.

As to a mass reveal, I’m all for it. I had pretty much settled on revealing my role today anyway, and getting a few votes only expedites things like that. I figured I’d be putting out what I know before I wind up getting taken out (no sense taking info to the grave), so getting everyone’s claim out there is certainly cool with me.

> Or - perhaps - that the dead scum held on to it for far to long and that’s what killed them?

It is an interesting quandary. Would scum risk hanging onto the book as a way of coaxing something useful out of it in an attempt to recover from the brutal walloping they are suffering, or would they shy away from incurring any additional risk? I’ll admit my gut jumped first to the later, but I can see the lure of the former.

NETA: A book with free will, or random will, or Mod will I find unlikely. I also think the Book as a red herring is also unlikely. Both boil down to quite anti-Town from a balancing perspective.

Yeah, I’m worried about the book, too. It’s just out there, unless I missed something.

I still support a claim by at least masons and investigators. Tell us what you know and the info. you have. We are doing really well, I think, and toDay seems to be the time for it.

That’s all that stands out in all that time?

Anyway, if you want to claim, you may as well claim.

Whether we do a mass claim or a partial claim we can only lynch one at a time. There has been no indication of a Day killer yet, but it is another thing to consider in the mix of claims. If we do have a Day killer, I hope they are paying close attention.

You seem to be eliminating possibilities that I am not willing to eliminate and embracing others more closely than I’m willing to embrace them. To each their own and all, but it is starting to seem like a pattern to me. A pattern that at best could be what I’d consider misguided Town, and a pattern that at worst could be manipulating in nature if you are cherry picking things from the past in a self-serving/non-town-faction-serving manner. I’ll just echo my earlier sentiments that even if you have doubts or hunches that things are certain ways, it is still better for the town to consider a wide range of possibilities when performing analysis.

This post by Cookies essentially says all the things I was thinking as I was catching up. I think with the already revealed variety of non-standard roles, a mass role claim right now has the potential to hurt us as much as help us.

And **Oy!** you are making a lot of conclusions based on previous games that I would be hesitant to put much weight behind. Surely there will be some overlap and call-backs to that game in a sequel, but it’s just as likely \*\*storyteller \*\*would mix things up to throw us off and make the game fair to all parties.

Earlier we were told (can’t remember if it was story directly or someone quoting him) that the book would be buried if it was in the possession of a player who died, but that it might turn up again anyway. If the scum team had taken possession of the Book during Night 1, they could have been passing it around or one player holding it without doing anything, but as their numbers have dwindled and with the unexpected Night kills, it grows more and more statistically unlikely that the Scum team is holding the book. Unless…

**Story, if a player holding the Book dies, will be told the fate of the Book at that time?**

Good thought. I wonder if he was told if/when the Book was buried with another player and then he could opt to retrieve it on a subsequent Night. It seems like from the color he was trying to dig it up when he was killed.

Problem might be that our “investigators” have some sort of quirk to their role. In almost all PMs I’ve seen in Storyteller’s game the role are not standard. So we might have investigators that can investigate “truth/false”-statements. What if all they have ATM is a lot of true statements. Will that tell us enough to justify them claiming?

Also - if we have masons I’d expect them to be less than standard as well. I can’t remember what Storytellers view is on tampering with the bacis mafia-roles. But I’ve seen other moderators giving mason their own wincon and - as has been mentioned before - scum claiming masons.

As I said before: I’m not against a mass claim in this game. I’m just not convinced now is the best time for it.

That makes sense. When NAF first had the book, he reported that Story told him that the book gets buried with the book holder in the event of his death. But, “these things have a way of turning up”. Of course, if Rysto was the only game mechanic for turning it up, it may stay buried with it’s owner.

Also, Unvote McGinty

Vote Lilflower

Not that I think Mcginty is town. I just think we’d benefit from Lil’s death. She’s either vanilla now and her lynch would confirm Total as town. Or she’s scum and came up with a fanciful role to protect her.

I’m honestly leaning more towards the former than the latter, but confirmed town would be a real asset.

Whose Towniness would **lilflower** ’s death confirm, beyond her own if she is Town? She has stated that **Total Lost** is human. It’s likely that three of Town’s probable four remaining enemies are human.

I’m in favor of lynching **lilflower** , but not as a confirmation of **Total Lost**.

Well, we need to talk about something. For the sake of interest, I’ve dug out all the vote count posts by story or by players:

**From Day One:**

We didn’t get a vote count from the Romanic debacle, but it would be worth going through that if someone can. The first shows Oredigger building up votes. Special ed has gone early. Our other known scum are voting elsewhere. There’s a fair chance that, with 7 votes on Digger more than one scum is in that mix.

> [@storyteller0910](#):
>
> VOTE COUNT
>
> **Oredigger77** - 7 votes - Drain Bead (716), special ed (717), lilflower (732), Idle Thoughts (733), Normal Phase (766), Texcat (798), NAF1138 (845)
>
> **Chipacabra** - 2 votes - USCDiver (812), One and Only Wanderers (814)
>
> **Mrs. McGinty** - 1 vote - peekercpa (755)
>
> **NAF1138** - 1 vote - Oy! (758)
>
> **One and Only Wanderers** - 1 vote - Telcontar (803)

Later in the day Digger has picked up more votes; Normal and NAF have both moved to different Scum. Our known scum pile onto Digger relatively late (except peeker). Moving votes off Digger would I think be unnecessary for Scum, so I give Normal a little credit for this - or TexCat/lilflower/Drain Bead less. The new voters all come in in pretty quick succession: this is the very definition of a bandwagon. There was never another contender so questions of defence don’t arise.

> NO LYNCH - 1 vote - Oredigger77 (898)

**Day Two** :

This is obviously peeker’s day. The key vote is Diver’s at 1353 which kickstarted the whole case. Two scum were pretty quick on jumping on that. Note that prior to 1353 Telcontar was joint leader, albeit with only 2 votes. Looking at the speed with which ed and Astral jumped on the wagon, I’d tend to see Diver as Town and their votes as opportunistic, rather than the two of them aligning with a fellow-scum’s case quite so quickly. Equally, I wouldn’t expect other scum to pile on so soon behind ed and Astral, although with votes coming thick and fast it might well happen by accident.

> [@USCDiver](#):

The wagon builds over the next two vote counts. I think it’s the later votes for peeker that are more likely to be scum (and althought I don’t appear in a vote count, I was one of those late votes, along with brewha. I don’t know who else didn’t make it in.) So us two, plus Guiri/Tom, lilflower and Nanook fit this profile.

OAOW drops off peeker to vote Idle, which again I don’t think Scum would feel they had to do.

Other points of note are the people who kept off the bandwagon. Among these TexCat stands out as having been on the last bandwagon. IME, Scum can be nervous about appearing on too many of those, and like to vary it up.

As wer progress, Plankton picks up votes. This is an interesting one because while he received a lot of interest for a long time, it took a while for his lynch to become certain. Ed joins relatively late in the vote count - something that is unusual for him.

Well, when I had put out there that I was looking to reveal – along with everyone else Today – my main thought was “…and it’ll be an obvious anti-town move for someone to say ‘No, you just go ahead and reveal’”, so we’ve got that box checked off. That out of the way, it’s certainly better for everyone to reveal in a pre-determined order, but with the expected scum-cover roles, it’s no huge loss not to do so. So, fuggit – here I am:

Any Scum-directed death will qualify; deaths occuring by any other means will not be distinguishable from one another, as all will be reported as simply “non-Scum.”

Which, BTW, I breadcrummed (or at least make an attempt to do) [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=12990979&postcount=529) with my very out-of-place use of the word “corner”:

> Too true – I’l never get behind the lynch all liars mentality. You pick up on a giveaway slip, then by all means, bring 'em down. But town can have as much need to lie to scum as scum needs to lie to town – no need to give them a free shot at a power role or get backed into a corner.
The fun part about this role is how scummy it makes me look. “Hey, I can tell you who the scum killed each night! How could I know that if I weren’t a pro-town power role? Errr…or scum, I suppose…” Anyway, I did a good job of guessing who the scum went after, and got positive confirmations each Night (well, pretty much…read on…).
Since this was a Day action, and there were no bodies for me to check on Day 1, things kick off with my Day 2 action:

Hiya **Story** – for my first trick, the **Reluctant Occultist** is going to try some of that hoodoo on **MHaye** ’s remains. Then it’s back to Diablo.
**MHaye** was definitely killed by a Deadite.
Then my Day 3 action:

Today, I think we’ll take a look-see at what happened to **Rysto** , if you please…
Rysto’s death was definitely the work of Demons.
I was a slight bit confused about one point of my results, so I sent a PM titled “Just to Confirm…”

…“Deadite” and “Demon” are interchangeable, correct?
**MHaye** was definitely killed by a Deadite.

Rysto’s death was definitely the work of Demons.

Yes. Sorry about that. They’re the same.
For my Day 4 action, I almost didn’t bother, but then realized doing so would be a mistake:

For today’s action, I think I’ll…well, I guess I’ll play lots of _Diablo_ and occasionally scratch myself, seeing as there were no new deaths to inspect.

Woah woah woah…glad I took a second before submitting that, went back and reread my role:
1. Once per Day, you may investigate the body of any player who has (previously) died by any means other than a lynch.
Cool – nothing saying they have to be fresh bodies. And while I might only be able to tell scum deaths from non-scum deaths, and I went two-for-two so far, there’s no reason not to take a look into the possibility of a scum double-kill, is there?

So, let’s take a look at the corpse of **Omi No Kami**.
Omi No Kami was not killed by a Deadite/Demon.

So, that’s where we are now with my work. I don’t see a terrible amount of use in the results at the moment, but something might be gleaned. Trouble at the moment is that we most likely are facing a greater threat from 3rd-party win conditions than we are from scum.

I’ve had a bit of a look at special ed. I’m not going to quote everything by any means, just what I think might still be relevant:

1. An early vote for Total Lost over the colour claim idea:

> [@special\_ed](#):
>
> OK, so they’re stuck in a claim of Ceiling Cat. What’s to prevent them from making up a power?

> 3. there’s another reason I haven’t thought of

>
> Vote: Total Lost

Obviously ed wants to establish himself as Town, so he positions himself as protecting power roles from exposure. What does the vote mean? My guess would be that early in Day One he wouldn’t want to risk starting a wagon on someone who has a fairly controversial idea, so I’m leaning slightly Town on Total Lost for this.

1. He goes after Maha consistently throughout the thread. This is an early example:

> [@special\_ed](#):
>
> ohhhh…so you’d like to create a chain already.
>
> You know, one of these guys is sScum, so if we miss on the first one, we get the second one.
>
> I’ve used to think this was Scummy. Then I saw it work once (I’ll try to remember where) However, you don’t really have any link between the 2 of them. It’s not as if the cases are even mildly related. (Like Oredigger accused Chip or there was a counterclaim or investigation). Nothing. You just seem to be trying to set up he next lynch. And it feels icky to me.

And here are some later ones:

> [@special\_ed](#):
>
> I’m having trouble remembering. Can you refresh my memory on what made you suspect Telcontar aside from ‘the way he played in a game’ that you were unable to back up. I think I just have had that so stuck in my mind that I’ve forgotten anything else.
>
> (aside from the burning mark on his forehead, that is)

> [@special\_ed](#):
>
> This still bothers me. It’s just difficult to get out of my mind no matter how much I try.
>
> Maybe the fact that Mahaoth really burned me with this approach in random Mafia. I was so confident that he was Scum (he was) but his defense that he had voted for a Scum before the Scum was even seen as Scummy won over the rest of the Town.
>
> So maybe part of it is personal.
>
> I know my vote is still on Suburban. The whole no defense defense still bugs me, despite Suburban otherwise acquitting himself well.
>
> When I get home, I’ll look through the thread again.

1. Here he’s somewhat defensive about McG.

> [@special\_ed](#):
>
> This is certainly plausible, especially considering that the cases both peeker and McGinty were making were unlikely to gather sufficient momentum to result ina lynch.
>
> Cartainly a tactic that’s been employed by Scumbuddies in previous games.
>
> However, it’s not enough to make a case against McGinty for it. Basicaklly, I see it as a null tell. A Scum McGinty could have done this, but a Town MGinty could also have been making an honest case against peeker.

1. Here he smudges/accuses TexCat and brewha. NB this is late in the game when Scum are beginning to hurt. Extra emphasis on TexCat.

> [@special\_ed](#):
>
> If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard a Scum say this, I’d have somewhere between 5 and 25 cents.
>
> Also, TexCat, why did you capitalize Day like daY, not once, but twice in your post?

Though Ed did take a poke at Maha early (the one you quoted), he didn’t really start laying into him until after Telcontar was exposed and Astral was dead (your second quote); hard to see him starting a bus at that point in the game.

This was roughly the point where **Nanook** came in with his entry. Having read through him by searching his posts, I didn’t quite realize how big the wagon had become (bad Tom, operating from memory instead of looking at the context); his post doesn’t really read like a plausible derailment attempt at this point.

**unvote**

and I got 2 hours of sleep last night so I’m not going to try to sort out where to place a new one just yet.

Oh very, very very interesting stuff going on. My second “investigation” was on the person who attacked me, and I did get a response, but I don’t know who it applies to at this point. I was assuming I might have been attacked by a scum who was dead by the time it would have mattered – but if Hal is telling the truth, that is not likely to be the case.

I wish I wasn’t so sick today, need to think.

Also, EXTREMELY amused at accusing Telcontar in part on the basis of something that wasn’t true (probably). That must’ve annoyed the Deadites something fierce. I almost want to apologize.

Noted also Hal’s acknowledgment of my “just claim then” request as anti-town. Highly appreciated. Someday someone will understand me, but apparently not today.

Oh, **unvote: Hal Briston**

**vote: brewha**

Horrible reasoning just above regarding the vote on lilflower; it has to be pointed out. Not sure yet if I want the vote to stay there, though.

Working against my reasoning that “scum wouldn’t attempt to derail a lynch of scum when it already had 12 people on it” is the fact that **Telcontar** in fact attempted to derail the lynch a handful of posts earlier. Meh. Too sleepy to think.
