I’ll admit to a little skimming at the moment (a quick Mafia look-see while I take a break from packing the van for our trip), so perhaps this has already been covered:

In the rules, Hal. :dubious:

Separately – yeah, OK, Oredigger doesn’t want anyone to unvote him, even though he’s town. Right.

You are good with raw data but you lack context Stan. You may notice that that post came after we wasted more or less a full 24 hours talking about nothing but what the best strategy for dealing with questions of fishing was and my particular stance on the subject.

I admit to allowing myself to be egged on, but really I don’t think that conversation had anything to do with anything and it wasn’t going to help us find scum in this game because is doesn’t force anyone to make choices about anything that has happened in this game. It’s not as if we were talking about my response to my vote by Oy!, we were talking about a position I have taken in multiple games as town, scum, and third party in the past. My post was less, hey let’s get him, and more, hey we were playing a game here remember?

Had I not ultimately voted for Digger would you still be voting for me?

It doesn’t do any good to save a vanilla and risk a power role. If people unvote me it should only be for a no lynch.

Can anyone tell me if they have played a game where vanilla town roles had individual color? I’ve never seen one.

Why no lynch? Do you not think anyone else in this game is worthy of a vote? I am always extra suspicious of a lynch leader who doesn’t want to vote. If you are town, I would think you’d want to leave us with something more than “no lynch” but since I don’t think you are town, my guess is that can’t decide if you want to to vote for a townie (because when you turn up scum, that person may look more town to us) or a scum buddy (because we may think you are trying to make a teammate look more townie).

Yes. It is one of a handfull of way to prevent a vanilla handshake.

I hate to be cavalier about it, but power role, schmower role. Risking them, exposing them, even lynching them mistakenly, is part of the game. That’s not a good enough excuse.

Possibly. The vote had relatively little to do with it. It seemed to me that you were suggesting some sort of conspiracy to protect Digger by derailing the bandwagon of votes on him. So I wanted to know who you thought was behind the conspiracy, and exactly how they’d gone about the derailing.

I agree that you were right to stop talking about fishing-as-scum-tell (I’ve stopped talking about the Book) but it was your tying it in to the vote-train on Digger that seemed odd. It’s one thing to remind people that we’re playing a game, but you didn’t say present as “Let’s get on with hunting scum” you presented it as “Let’s get on with voting for Digger”. Even now, saying you were being “egged on” suggests that you were deliberately provoked. Who provoked you? Did they do so maliciously?

Who? The people who were continuing to bring it up. Was it malicious? I haven’t decided yet.

It may or may not have been connected to anything, but I did think the timing was interesting. All I did was ask for people other than me to look at the timing and see if there was anything to be made of it.

Dammit, I have been going back and forth on whether or not I should say anything, but it would seem to be clear that Oy! isn’t vanilla town. Does everyone else read this post that way?

I’m afraid so. Say Oy! is the vanilla “vacuum-cleaner salesman” instead of “pharmaceutical sales rep” – I don’t think he makes that comment. He wouldn’t expect every vanilla in the game to be another “vacuum-cleaner salesman”.

And vice-versa, there’s no way in any case that story is going to provide scum with fake vanilla claim that doesn’t actually look like a real vanilla claim.

I hate to say it, but I do think the claim might be genuine. Simply because I don’t see the value for Scum in such a weak claim. Vanilla isn’t a role that we’re going to be thrown into a panic over. He’s not pushing for us to unvote him. But if we don’t, what’s the point in burning a fake claim? They only have value if they actually stop you from being lynched, and this claim seems particularly unlikely to achieve that goal.

as much as i don’t like waffles in this game i don’t really know. and i have not played with **oy** before and i have no idea what the experience level is. but he/she appears to be looking for any edge so the fact that he/she doesn’t know that **story** has a history of customizing everything, maybe it’s an honest question.

The people most involved in that discussion (special ed and Normal Phase) already had votes on Oredigger. I assume you’re not suggesting they might have been trying to derail that train. That leaves, as far as I can see, Cookies, Mahaloth and Nanook all making two posts each in that particular chat. Two of them subsequently voted Oredigger.

But above all I’m baffled that you, who have been trumpeting the merits of discussion in and of itself, regardless of the topic, are now complaining that we had too much discussion.

Well. I can’t say I much like Oredigger’s no-lynch vote, but it still doesn’t read to me as scum.

As for Oredigger’s willingness to fall on the sword, I think the reasoning is that if we lynch someone else, Oredigger will just go on the block again toMorrow and we’ll have to go through the whole rigamarole again.

Blah. I’ve got a short list of people that I’m pretty sure AREN’T scum, but I still can’t decide on who to vote for. I’ll be back after another review of the Day.

Vanilla claims have stopped lynches before – I recall Drain Bead in Screamers, for instance. On the exact same logic that you used, for that matter (although of course she actually was town!)

I think when it comes down to it I just hate making decisions based on what the scum might have thought was in their best interests. Who knows why they do what they do? They might not even have day talk, and in that case it’s even more iffy; it’d be down to Oredigger himself, what one single person thought was a good idea at the time.

I do see the logic, and with over 24 hours left in the Day am still willing to hear new cases. As for yours on NAF, his participation as a whole has not rung and scum bells with me.

Well, that’s the way I read it. I didn’t want to bring it up in case he is a power role. Though, I think it’s fair to assume that there are three groups in this cabin. Vanilla town, Power town, and scum. There may also be PFKs and who knows what else, but the basic three are likely there. Now, if we know Oy! isn’t vanilla town, odds are better that he is indeed scum than say odds of someone we know nothing about.
It’s getting late in the dAy, and I’m without a vote cast. Oy!? Do you wanna 'splain anything?

Well that would be a bad assumption then. Where people have there vote doesn’t really matter much this early in the Day this early in the game. What they do is much more important. More importantly, I am not saying that they were necessarily doing anything maliciously, just that we had a real topic for discussion, the bandwagon that had been forming, and that we were letting ourselves get distracted away from it with fruitless conversations about things in past games.

I am a baffling person. I never said conversation regardless of the topic. I would object to long conversations about the weather in our different locations also. If you are unable to tell the difference between fruitful and non fruitful discussion that is really more a failing on your part than on mine.
