Ah, I misread it: I thought that would be a pool of town, a pool of possible scum and scum but yeah it think it was meant all got ‘you are not yet scum’ except some of the scum.

I don’t see a point to any mass claim right now. Wouldn’t the scum just also say that they got the PM mentioned above? I’m not sure what you mean about the Masons. Are you talking about after powers are distributed?

**Total Lost** , I’m sorry to keep picking at this, but the only PM _quoted_ (as opposed to vaguely described) by the Mod in his post was “You are not yet scum.” So I can’t understand why Scum (who want to be perceived as Town) or Town would ever claim anything but “You are not yet scum.”

I don’t understand your point in Post # 139 at all.

What is the edit window here? Also, I assume that if you quote a post that is later edited, the quote will retain the original text. If this happens, it will definitely be interesting to see what a person edited.

I don’t want to say that I would vote for someone who edited, but I agree that seeing a post has been edited will definitely raise an eyebrow for me.

But **Rysto** seemed to think everyone would claim “You are possible scum.” and **Total Lost** seemed to be supporting him. Which makes me wonder if either/both of them got something other than “You are not yet scum.”

**Total Lost** , I think, just misunderstood your point.

As for me, I was simply careless. I relied on memory when I posted that rather than checking on the exact wording. Note that **story** provided us with the exact text of the PM, and believe me, if I were scum I would have been very sure to get the wording exactly right.

Enforcing a no edit rule forces everyone to stand by their words, which is good.

However, modkilling is drastic, particularly if someone fixed a borked quote tag and made sense of an otherwise hideously jumbled, or even completely hidden, post (earlier versions of the board software could, under certain circumstances, hide the contents of a post with a missing quote tag - I had to rewrite a claim post once because I did that). Is it fair to punish someone for making their words more legible?

Also, such actions are, inevitably, a moderator interference in the progress of the game, which will (as a result of the intervention) follow a different course than it would have had the intervention not happened.

The final decision of the mod probably takes that sort of factor into account, along with the length of the “edit window.” On this board, with its extremely short window, it’s probably better to allow editing. On Idle’s board, I lean the other way because the player can edit their posts as long as the thread is unlocked.

I don’t think I misunderstood. More that I tend to respond to “explain all I’m newbie” in a kind of kindergarden-teacher way…
I’m sorry.
I play with a lot of newbies and sometimes typing all out early on makes it easier for all later.

So I read Oy! as totally confused ☹

After the edit window has closed, only forum moderators can see the edit history.

I’ll bear that in mind. But I’ll also bear in mind what I’ve noticed from reading several games, which is that Scum make mistakes too. Also, that the most straightforward interpretation of an action is often the right one, and Town can tie itself in knots looking for crazy explanations for Scum actions when the truth was, Scum messed up.

And I think we need to sort of address the problem before it becomes concrete and we’e talking about _one_ action and not _a_ action.

I only played mafia here (and never-ever years ago) so I never (ever) had to edit. I didn’t know you could only edit in a very short period of time.
However - I still would prefer a NETA than an edit.

Confirming.

@Total & lilflower: Where I play (same places than Normal Phase), editing is permitted, albeit it will invalidate a vote if the post has one. I don’t see why you would want to restrict it, or even see someone as suspicious just because he has edited a post.

Most of the time a post is edited to correct spelling, grammar or add content to your last post instead of making a double post (which is frowned upon on many boards). Sure sometimes a player will remove content when he made a mistake (gave information that he shouldn’t have etc) but I’ve seen townies and mafia do so. Editing _per se_ is not suspicious, and if it is allowed, I think players should use it to fix their posts.

Typically, yes, I am.

But in this case, in post #154, you said:

The Mod has told us two kinds of PMs will be sent:

1. You’re not scum, yet
or
2. You’re scum - go pick a playmate

Why would anyone receiving PM no. 2 say they did?
And what would the risk if they lied and said they got PM no. 1?

So Scum would run no risk what so ever, if they lied and said they got the PM qouted by the Mod in his post.
[/QUOTE]

But **Rysto** did \*not[/] quote the Mod in his post. So what were you driving at?

Fine. A part of me might agree.

If this is how you fell then don’t play the newbie-card:

If this is true then it’s a no brainer that post editing should not be seen as suspicious. Editing a post within five minutes is pretty much like correcting it before posting it, and will mostly be used to fix errors rather than dramatically change its content.

Where I play editing a post will get you modkilled.
If you’re really lucky and the mod has a good day, you end up with a restriction.

So when I read that part - I sort of went

That’s why I brought it up and now I’m really pleased I did. Before someone edited a post and we would have all kinds of reactions. Not based on alignment - but based on the traditions of the sites where we normal play.

I still think editing is wrong.
We usual ask the mod or an admit to help fix the tags - and they almost always do.

However based on the rule in this game, I guess Storyteller will not help out with stuff like that.
I’ll try to modify how strongly I feel about editing in mafia-games.
But I doubt I’ll ever be able to let it slide by, when I see a post edited.
