Serial killers obviously come in as being the most “evil” - people with really just no redeeming characteristics. People who simply enjoy pain and suffering for the sheer joy of it. There’s no circumstance (historical or otherwise) that makes their actions any more understandable. They’re not intended to do good, but have some twisted way of justifying it. They really do just stand on the other side of things, intending to cause harm and misery and knowing exactly what they’re doing. That’s the closest thing I can think of that is based in reality that means “evil.” In that sense Jack the Ripper is more evil than Adolph Hitler, even though the one obviously _committed_ more evil acts than the other. ---
