My water had been tested. It’s fine. We have 2 deep wells and a fresh water pond and a biggish creek on the place. Not sure about fracking. These old, old oil wells have quit producing years ago. Never was good oil. A company came and offered us money for the mineral rights and wanted to test for natural gas. We failed the test and they went away. Alas, ol’beck ain’t rollin’ in the dough. (I wish I had the recipe for Grannys rhuematize medicine)(:)) ---

I know a bootlegger. I avoid him. The lil’wrekker is curious about my secret fun activities here on the Dope. Sometimes I’ll be reading and crack-up at one of you guys posts. She always asks “What?” I just tell her she wouldn’t understand. Occasionally I have asked her opinion on something someone posts. Today we talked about OK hand sign meaning white power. She knew exactly what I meant. I was surprised because I hadn’t heard about that. ETA she doesn’t like me naming her the lil’wrekker. ---

Rural poverty is different but just as terrible as urban poverty. My dad was a job corps recruiter for a couple years. Finding these rural families homes could be extremely challenging. Beck’s description of locating a rural home is very similar to my dad’s experiences in the late 1970’s. ---

Yeah, that’s one way Indiana is different than places like Arkansas. Out in the country, generally speaking is where farmers and rich people live. There are poor people living in rural areas I guess, but there really aren’t the vast tracts of wilderness where poor people are off the grid way back in the woods. Indiana for the most part is patches of woods, then patches of farmland, a city here and there, more farmland, more patches of woods. Not as many places where you can be away from anybody. ---

Ask Li’l Wrekker what she prefers to be called. Princess Wrekker? Empress Wrekker? Proeny of Beck? Oo! Oo! Wrexxer! The double x’s for chromosomes and, you know, looking cool. 🙂 When I first moved to Wyoming, I got befuddled when someone told me things like “Turn west where the old Boot and Bottle used to be.” The ol’ what? What’s there now? Which way is west? But the curse, the thing I absolutely dread the most, is when someone says, “You can’t miss it.” It’s a curse that guarantees I will miss it. Have you ever had poke salat? I’ve been curious since that song “Poke Salat Annie” came out. (“Gator’s got your granny, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp.”) ---

Poke salat is good. It’s poisonous if not handled right. I’ve picked it and broke out in a rash up to my elbows. Wear gloves. I used to tell my kids it’s what Popeye ate. Worked until they saw Popeye spinach at the grocery store. It’s a good spring tonic, perks you right up. I will run your names passed The lil’wrekker and see what she thinks.
