The Allies entered Rome late on June 4, 1944. Under normal circumstances, the capture of the first Axis capital would have been major news. But just hours later, the troops landed at Normandy Beach and “D-Day” was the top story of the day. ---

Coverage of the funeral was everywhere. I did know that Mother Teresa had died, but that news was almost obliterated by Di’s funeral coverage. ---

I have vague memories of the Ansett story being at the very bottom of the front page of the newspaper underneath all the 9/11 coverage - even though I was pretty young at the time I still remember seeing mentions of it amongst the bigger news and thinking that it would have been headline news on any other day. ---

Karl Malden, from Gary, Indiana, died on July 1, 2009. Nobody paid much attention due to another guy from Gary who died June 25. ---

My Grandmother was murdered in quite a brutal way, but the newspapers weren’t interested in printing stories about any death other than Elvis’s. ---

He was an illegal immigrant, and this is all to protect Condit. ---

Ten years ago, the Capitol Steps comedy troupe did a “CNN: Condit News Network ‘All Gary Condit, all the time’” skit, where every news story somehow related back to Gary Condit, so e.g. an apparently unrelated incident would be described in terms of how close it happened to Gary Condit’s home. ---
