Because everyone is waiting with bated [breath:](http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/09/27/GGinstalled05-09-27.html) > [@](#): > > Michaëlle Jean, a Haitian-born Montrealer and television journalist, is Canada’s 27th Governor General. Jean was sworn in during a colourful ceremony in the Senate chamber Tuesday morning. ---

This is extremely cool. I love her coat of arms. I must look to see whether I can find a vid of the ceremony online. ---

Nice motto, too - I hope she can carry it off - Og knows we need fewer solitudes. She has some big shoes to fill, though, as Clarkson has proven to be one of the better GGs, and has far exceeded my initial expectations (“Adrianne Clarkson? What has she done other than be on TV?”). ---

> [@Bookkeeper](#): > > Nice motto, too - I hope she can carry it off - Og knows we need fewer solitudes. One thing that does annoy me a bit is the whole “two solitudes = English and French not understanding each other.” The original quotation, the epigraph to Hugh MacLennan’s _Two Solitudes_, was from Rilke: “Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and touch and greet each other.” It means \*rapprochement, not division. ---

I found a vid of the swearing-in ceremony on the GG’s site: [http://www.gg.ca/gg/index\_e.asp](http://www.gg.ca/gg/index_e.asp) Très cool. 🙂
