I keep reading about how pet adoptions are way up due to the pandemic. Apparently that doesn’t apply to Hawaii:

Seems like a volcano sacrifice would be easier, just saying…

You go first. That would be the easiest.

I saw this in the local news awhile back. Honestly don’t know why they had to airlift them out. But I can tell you that a lot of people live in apartments or condos like we do and cannot have pets. And Covid has been devastating to local employment, so maybe a lot fewer can afford to take care of a pet. Dunno.

"Greater Good Charities and Wings of Rescue launched the “Wings of Aloha” program. The program places shelter animals that have not been adopted or claimed in less crowded shelters in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, where they have a higher chance of finding a home.

“Pet shelters in Hawaii are in a COVID-19 crisis. Normal operations have been affected by months of shut down, economic downturn, limited hours, and routine flights to mainland halted,” said Liz Baker, CEO of Greater Good Charities.”‘Paws Across the Pacific is urgently needed to make space in Hawaii’s shelters for at-risk pets who otherwise wouldn’t be able to receive necessary care to survive.”"

The Hawaiian Humane Society and other organizations rely heavily on donations. With the bad economy people can’t afford to give as much as they used to.

Sorry, should have been a reply to Siam\_Sam

This story [https://www.khon2.com/coronavirus/pet-adoptions-fosters-have-increased-during-stay-at-home-order/](https://www.khon2.com/coronavirus/pet-adoptions-fosters-have-increased-during-stay-at-home-order/) explains that foster care placements have increased because the Hawaii and Maui Humane Societies had to close during the shut down. It sounds like a positive thing, but foster care isn’t a forever home. It’s just a temporary fix.

Islands have always had problems with strays. We’ve been involved with a rescue organization in St Martin and have helped place their dogs in the US.

Meanwhile, my daughter and her fiancé just yesterday adopted an older, cute little dog from Texas.
