Expected plot twists which didn't happen (spoilers)

I was expecting that

with various characters talking about breakfast (Fabienne, the Wolf’s girlfriend) they’d all end up at the coffeshop at the end.

In The Notebook, which I was forced to watch:

They had set up to whole movie to look like the James Gardner/Gena Rowlands couple were the elderly Noah and Allie. Then, towards the end of the movie during the flashback scenes, it mementarily looked like Allie might actually go with her well-bred fiance instead of Noah. I suddenly hoped for the coolest plot-twist of all time, and that Garner would turn out to be that guy instead of Noah. “Here’s the story of how your mother chose me, the ambitious rich businessman, over some handsome, rough, poor loner poet!” But, unfortunately, they with with the cliche instead.

In Star Wars, ep. 1-3, I halfway expected…

Darth Vader to be a clone of Anikin Skywalker

GATTACA:

The hero doesn’t have a heart attack when the spacecraft takes off.

Twelve Angry Men

Henry Fonda doesn’t confess to the murder.

Ethilrist:

'Waaaayyyyy back, right after Episode 4 came out in 1977, some people were speculating that the Ben Kenobi that Luke met was himself a clone.

Why?

  1. He fought in the Clone Wars

  2. They called him Old Ben

  3. Just as “Artoo Detoo” is really “R2D2”, “Obi-Wan” is really OB-1

  4. OB-1 stands for “Old Ben One”, the first clone “struck off” the original Kenobi.

I do, but that’s a scene that could have happened to Austin in any time period. If he’d punched out some innocent drag queen, it would have played more into the “fish out of water” theme of the movie.

Huh…I was halfway expecting:

Darth Sideous to be a clone of a benevolent Senator from Naboo.

Silence of the Lambs

During the final showdown in Buffalo Bill’s basement, I expected the darkened figure stalking Clarice with the night-vision goggles to be revealed as - Dr. Lecter! Yep, Lecter who’d last been seen successfully escaping his prison cell and knew all about Buffalo Bill (including, presumably, his whereabouts) snuck into Bill’s basement right before Clarice got there, offed Bill as soon as he descended the stairs, and therefore, Clarice would have the big showdown with Hannibal, not Bill. I was actually surprised when it turns out Dr. Lecter showed how smart he was by skipping the country! Cuz’ dammit! That’s just not what the evil madmen adversaries do in serial killer flicks.

That would have been a better explanation then what we got, which was some vague stuff I hardly remember. Then again, I think the Bros. dropped the ball on movie 3, not 2(which was pretty good).

During Gerard Jones’s run on Green Lantern, when Hal Jordan was recuiter for the corps and Guy Gardner was official GL of Earth, I expected that Guy would begin thinking that he’s not a real person, but rather some separate being created by Hal’s ring in which to channel all negative aspects of Hal’s personality. The precedent for this would be the way the Predator (a villain) had been revealed, a few years earlier, to be some part of Carol Ferris given life by Zamaron technology.

I wasn’t sure if the plot would end in Guy in fact being such a split-off or Guy determining that he’s a real person but I was sure that the characters were going in that general direction.

Oh, yeah, that too. In fact, I kind of expected that for all the main characters.
