Happens to me all the time. As others have noted, I take it to either mean my point was well made and complete and left nothing to be said, or everyone just rolls their eyes and moves one. I figure it’s the first one, since so many people are so enamored of the rolleyes smilie, I’m sure someone would have used it at me by now.
Really, though, if you want people to respond, you’ve got to Troll.
Kidding, kidding. Seriously, you should try to make more half-assed, poorly thought out comments if you want responses. My problem is, I try to make my comments at least three-quarter-assed.
I have to agree with Cranky (who’s posts I always notice) and feel like I am going through one of those spells right now… go ahead and ignore this post too …
It’s either that or I am just always completely right and no-one can find any way to disagree with me.
I’d estimate that 90% of the posts on this board are not publicly acknowledged. I’d like to think that they’re not totally ignored (though I admit that I only read about 3 posts in this thread :D), but if someone commented on every post that was made, this place would get weird and boring really quickly.
I purposely stayed out of that art thread. Having spent years at an “arts-oriented” college, I’ve heard more flavors of theory about art than I can recall or stomach. The thread seemed to have a huge number of opinions – and there are so many things that could still be said. The topic might as well have been “Define What Art Is”.
I read your posts first, started to scan the others, and then just gave up. There’s WAY too much being discussed.
Also note many of the posters who were getting responses were answering previous posts. Yours are coherent, but it wouldn’t be clear to me, had I been contributing, what part of what you said was being addressed to me.
I’d think #2 myself. I wouldn’t worry about it in most cases, but it can get really bothersome when you answer a GQ or correct a detail and people keep on trying to answer the GQ or quoting the incorrect detail as if you hadn’t mentioned that already. But hey, I’m more a newbie than you are, so I’m just interjecting my opinion where it doesn’t necessarily apply!
See, I KNEW there was an Ignore List - I KNEW it!!! :smack:
Seriously, thank you for all of the perspectives and practical tips. While all of the comments regarding “don’t sweat it”, “lots of people scan posts” and “don’t worry if you get lost in a big debate” were all helpful (and true), I also like the advice about directing my comments towards someone in the post, using questions, etc - I hadn’t fully appreciated how a more “standalone-appearing” post might be less engaging with other posters. Thank you for mentioning the now-obvious!:smack: :smack:

Wordman: I don’t know why you were ignored, but I just want to take this opportunity to extend to you my sympathy. It’s happened to me a number of times, and it is annoying. At least you know you are not alone.
