Experiences with dental tooth implants

That IS scary, Wookinpanub! A nightmare, really. So, you had a general anesthetic or something close to it? Was that because you had multiple implants at the same time?

I had three shots of the local stuff. He did two, and started working, and I stopped him and said, “I can feel that-- it’s not painful, but it’s not numb.” He said, “Let’s go for totally numb,” and gave me another one.

I don’t blame you for being apprehensive about the next visit. :frowning:

Huh - looks like the thread got bounced by someone logging on just to link to a video series - spammish even if it isn’t linked to a product.

But anyway, Wookinpanub, how did things work out for you, all in all?

My tooth that was finished up in 2015 occasionally bugs me, especially if I’ve chewed something pretty tough / chewy on that side. It’s better than the failing tooth was, but not perfect.

I did go through a bad couple of days last week - not sure why but the gum above that tooth and between that tooth and the one in front (tooth replaced is #14, so this affected 13 and 14) got very, VERY sore to the point I could hardly brush near it. flossing hurt like hell and caused a lot of bleeding.

Then as I was about to call the dentist, I realized that my tongue could just feel something sticking out. As the tongue isn’t a precision instrument, it was actually hard to tell whether it was tooth 13 or 14. It felt like a little bit of something had slid between the gum and the tooth, if you’ve ever had that sensation. It hurt like hell to try to catch it with a fingernail.

Finally after 45 minutes or so I somehow dislodged it - pretty sure it was a bit of popcorn hull from the previous weekend, apparently under the implant crown. Yech - not sure what they have to do if that happens and it can’t be gotten out with tools - I guess they might have had to trash and remake the crown!

It started feeling better almost immediately.
