The first season of Babylon 5 is sort of tough to get through, but it’s very important to the overall series. It’s well worth plowing through it to get to the really good stuff.
I don’t remember a toilet-usage scene in B5 - which episode was it in?
The only other spaceship toilet I can think of is the zero-G toilet in 2001. Floyd is seen reading the lengthy instructions.
I don’t blame you. The pilot is fucking awful. The whole first season is pretty rocky, but once they get the new captain in (in the second season) the whole thing starts to really take off.
Don’t remember what episode it was in, but the security guy and whoever was commander of the station at the time walked into the bathroom, did their business, “washed” their hands using UV light, and walked out, all while maintaining their conversation.
Don’t remember too much more about it because there weren’t any hot babes involved like most of the rest of the series.
Ah thanks, I do vaguely recall that scene.
One of my favorite “realistic” touches in B5 was one scene where Sheridan and Delenn are having a Very Important Discussion in a corridor of the station, and in the background you can see one of those two-legged yellow plastic “Caution: Floor Is Slippery When Wet” signs, like you see in any McDonalds right after they’ve mopped the floors. Apparently, those signs are the pinnacle of wet-floor-warning technology, and will remain unchanged for centuries to come. I don’t know why, but I just love that.
I’ve just watched Disk 1. I’m hooked.
Kayleigh is indeed extremely cute…
It’s Kaylee, just for the record.
I don’t give a s**t, she’s still goddamn cute!
Actually, I was going by the spelling in the posts I read earlier. I’ll make a note of it.
She is just as cute in person as she is on screen. Just saw her at Comic-Con, and she is such a sweetheart! (Gush, gush.)
Too bad she lives in Vancouver, BC, and intends to stay there.
She’s also quite married, dangit.
It’ll never last. He’s all wrong for her. Whoever he is.
On the day of the Great Northwest Dopefest, Cervaise showed me the pilot episode of Firefly. (And then we played some Halo.)
On the strength of the pilot episode, I went out and bought the boxed set. I’m trying to pace myself—I’ve only watched the first disc. And I’ve watched the first two shows twice.
Well, I just hope you people are quite pleased with yourselves. On weight of your recommendations (o.k., o.k., I saw the Joss Whedon panel at ComicCon last week, too), I broke down and ordered the DVD’s of Firefly.
The past 2 nights, since I’ve gotten it, I’ve averaged 4 full episodes a night, meaning that I get to bed at, oh, 3:00 a.m. or so. I’ve got 2 discs to go.
So. I would really appreciate if a few of you would roust yourselves up and get over here to, I don’t know, pick up my living room, wash the dishes, throw in a load of darks and scoop the kitty box, 'mkay? Oh and on your way over, could you pick up a quart of milk and some cucumber slices for the bags under my eyes?
Thanks ever so…
Best EVER.
Ummmmm…jellyblue? Don’t thank us quite yet. You see, you are about to hit what we like to call the Whiplash Point.
-
The last two discs have some of the best stuff, like Objects In Space.

Then you realize that the motherjumpers cancelled this show!!! The best show ever on TV, and they cancelled it before it hit its stride.
WHIPLASH!
Now you see why we were all screaming so loud at Comic-Con when we saw the whole cast together again…and Joss.
Great. I see. Then when I sink into an INEVITABLE & PROFOUND BLACK HOLE OF DEPRESSION, would you guys consider some of the aforementioned? Especially the kitty box. That can get pretty bad…
I’m well aware of network stupidity. I was here when they cancelled Angel. [Spike Voice] Stupid gits! [/Spike Voice] At least we have a movie to look forward to!!
And see, I thought it was just 'cause they were all so damn hot! (Mmm…Inarra…)
That’s why I’m okay. I’m okay. Because twitch I’m rationing the episodes. One. One at a time. Just one. twitch Not too many now. Careful. Gotta make 'em last. Until April twitch Everything will be happy again in April. twitch twitch, spasm The movie comes out in April. And I still have six more episodes twitch to go. That’s one per month. I can make it.
falls over backward
little off topic here, but still Firefly related,
On one of the commentaries they mention you can learn how to play the game that Book, Simon and Jayne are playing on the ship. I haven’t been able to find the website they’re talking about. Anybody know?
I agree.
JB, as good as the first two discs are, the four best episodes are all on discs three and four. I’m a life-long science fiction fan, and I don’t think it would be over the top to say that Out of Gas and Objects in Space are two of the best pieces of SF television ever broadcast.
If it helps pacing yourself until the film comes out, there’s no reason you can’t watch the shows over and over.
You’ll want to re-watch the ones with the audio commentaries on them, at least.
Heh. I’m honestly jealous of people in your position who get to see the shows for the first time. I wish I could get a regular mindwipe and watch the series over and over.
And, okay, confession time:
I bought the boxed set the week it was released, and I still haven’t watched the three unaired episodes.
I’ve watched most of the rest, multiple times. But I’ve been saving the ones I haven’t seen. I keep looking at the box, thinking, Mmmm, how about now? but then I stop and say to myself, No, because once they’re done, there’s no going back. And I return the box to its spot on the shelf. It’s difficult and painful to keep denying myself, but it’s undeniably thrilling to know there’s some unseen Firefly waiting for me whenever I want it.
Ahh, such exquisite agony.
