Explain the Green Bay Packers Ownership, and how it differs from other NFL teams

Isn’t Los Angeles’ pro football team more properly called the University of Southern California Trojans?

Sorry, but bad nitpick. Merriam-Webster Online on the meaning of “illegal.” Increasing usage is to apply it to any violation of rules, private or public.

Thanks all. Cool enough, I’ll stick with the Packers then.

I, a Packers owner, say “thanks!”

QtM, who got to meet Bart Starr the QB after a game, on the field.

And I’ll never forget [del]Brent[/del] Brett either!

You, sir, are my hero!!! (and not just for your hull-slithering capabilities now! :D)

But did you greet Lynn Dickey on the field after the game? :stuck_out_tongue:

My pleasure. Might order some merchandise this year to help you along. Now do well over there!

zamboniracer, you’re right, USC and UCLA are LA’s version of pro football. You’d be hard-pressed not to find a football fan in LA who doesn’t root for one or the other. I think what Flymaster may have been referring to is that the Raiders still do a brisk merchandising business in LA.

Most of you probably know that plans are afoot to bring an NFL franchise back to LA. The new (unbuilt) stadium has a website already: LA Football Stadium (warning: Flash with sound). It’s going up in a relatively industrial area, somewhat far from downtown LA (where the Coliseum is and where USC plays).

That is awesome.

I wish I could both meet Mr. Starr, and be a part owner of the Pack.

I would change that to “might go up” and nobody should hold their breath waiting for financing (or a team to agree to uproot itself and move, or the creation of a new team)

There have been many hairbrained schemes to build stadiums over the years (anyone remember Al Davis and the gravel pit in Irwindale?)

…and yet LA has shown, again and again, that it is unable to support an NFL franchise…

They kept the Rams for 50 years, and Al Davis’ waverings probably aren’t a great indicator of any sort of reality. It’s all well and good to knowingly nod and say “LA is a college football/ basketball/ Dodgers town,” or "Who wants to go to a football game when you can go to the beach?, but do you really doubt that a long-awaited returned team wouldn’t be embraced by the city, particularly if it was a moved team that had a chance of being decent, instead of an expansion team?

Since 1971?

My friend, you had a long row to hoe there, before there was return to glory…
