I think I’ve said this before, but my username everywhere else is “wyzardd”. I signed up with that name back in '01 and since then lost my password and closed the email I was using. So when I decided to pay I chose what I have because A) I liked the name-personality thing DtC has 2) Bobo is funnier than Bob and III) I’m a pessimist and thought everyone would enjoy the irony (I was wrong, but I have got a few “best username/content combo” votes) Yes, I apologized to **Tuba** , who knows about the two accounts and keeps promising to merge them, but apparently keeping the board running is more important than getting me a “Join Date '01” 😉 ---

Every time I explain it, it causes confusion and denial, so let’s try for clarity this time: In French: **Mange** = Eat **Tout** = All The username refers to my tendency toward gourmandism. I’m aware that Mangetout is another name for a type of pea - snow pea - where the whole pod is eaten(hence the name), but this is not the reason for my username. I’m also aware that my username can be broken down into the words Man Get Out, but this is entirely coincidental and I was not even aware of this possibility when I chose the name. Also, although my username is composed of French words, I myself am not French, not that there’s anything wrong with that. ---

“Acid Lamp” is an anagram of my name. I used an online generator and loved the mental image of an ancient brass and glass lamp filled with glowing green acid. ThHe runner up was “Narwhal Jock”. ---

My usual username is shadeedge, but that wasn’t accepted here for some reason. So I used synonyms. My usual name is just something I noticed from a programming friend’s computer… different meaning of shade, I would guess. ---

I’ve explained before, but don’t mind explaining again. About 16 years ago, we got our first email account. Our ISP assigned an address. My email address was firstname+last initial. It’s pretty much what I’ve used for sign-in names ever since. I never really thought that people would parse it as nori-new until folks here started addressing me as “nori”. Doesn’t bother me, though. In fact, at dopefests, I often just introduce myself that way now. Just btw, this is the first message board I ever joined. When I signed up, I _did_ try username Tahireh, but was told it was in use, though I was never able to find evidence of her (guessing it was female, but not certain). So, I just fell back to good ol’ norinew. ---

This is slightly embarrassing. Sometime around high school my best friend and I started saying, ‘‘Olive You’’ to each other instead of ‘‘I love you,’’ because we’re very silly. This eventually got shortened to ‘‘Olives’’ and became my trademark among my little circle of friends. (At this point even my mother in law signs her e-mails and greeting cards this way.) Cut to freshman year of college when I had to pick out an AIM name. She happened to be there setting up the account (I was putting away laundry or something) and she started screwing around with variations of ‘‘olives.’’ Then she added ‘‘march4th’’ which is my birthday, and, being silly, we noticed the astonishing way the name brought to mind olives marching forth, in a regimented formation of looooove. Oh, and for what it’s worth, I detest olives. ---

A copy from a [recent one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=417362): I got to this board through another board I frequent. That board is (mainly) about riddles and puzzles. There, I “rised” to the level of “Uberpuzzler” (it’s post-count dependent). When I came here, I thought about keeping that title, but the “uber” sounded a little pretentious. So, off went the uber, leaving Puzzler behind. ---

It’s from an early short story by the late Keith Roberts (British SF writer: died 2000). Boulter’s Canaries are trans-dimensional beings who share the world with us unknown. (Professor Boulter is their discoverer and they “hop around like ruddy canaries” according to the narrator of the story). The Canaries make it plain that they want nothing whatsoever to do with Homo Sapiens and any attempt at communication is met by a hostile reaction. What all this says about me psychologically, I shudder to think! :dubious: ---

I signed up for Xbox Live a couple of months before I signed up for the Dope. I brain stormed for a couple of days for a gamertag. I wanted a short nickname, a pithy moniker, and the name was born. Of course, the Xbox live crowd is not as swift as other online communities. One person asked me what language was “Pithy Moniker” and almost everyone else had trouble with it. After three straight nights of being called “Pity Monkey” in voice chat, I paid the 10 bucks and had my gamertag changed to something else. I thought that it was a shame to let such a nice name go to waste so I used it when I signed up here. It’s been much more well received on the Dope. ---
